Yes, it's time to shed that stupid label and just be ourselves, a nation of American citizens. We are mostly a nation of citizens not immigrants and have been for some time now. Our native born citizen population way outnumbers our immigrant one. That term is used to blackmail us by those who want open borders for any foreigner who can crawl, swim or fly in here with or without papers.
The nation of immigrants slogan is relatively new. It isn't wrong, but it means nothing.
You could just as much say that America is a nation of invaders/conquerors/occupiers/etc. It would be equally true. But what does it mean? Why does it matter?
Moreover, why did Europeans come here to begin with? How did this country become this country? How did we acquire all this land? And why did our government want to bring in immigrants in the first place? What benefits did they provide? Was everyone in favor of immigration? Why not?
In the past, was immigration about being nice? Did we bring in immigrants to give them welfare? Is immigration today about being nice? Who benefits from immigration?
Cases in point: I'm not one. My dad wasn't. His parents weren't. Most of my friends aren't. Millions of other Americans aren't!
Oh, then you must be AMERICAN INDIAN ! Sorry we came here and treated your people so badly.
