Most conservatives believe that we should return to traditional values as a nation. Things like strong nuclear families, abstinence before marriage, strong cultural Christianity, family-oriented television, rejection of homosexuality and transgenderism, and high respect for institutions such as religion, the government, and the military. Basically, a return to the late 1950s but with modern technology/medicine and less overt racism.
Problem is, the cat is out of the bag and has been since the civil rights movement and sexual revolution of the 1960s. Church attendance is at an all-time low, especially with the Millennial generation. Gays are out of the closet and aren't going back willingly.
The only way we are returning to "traditional values" in our country is if it is enforced by the state. However, there are some big Constitutional problems with doing so. This is one reason that while the religious right has managed to slow social progress they have not been able to stop it.
Would you support the government enforcing a return to traditional values in our country? If so, how far do you think would be acceptable to go to do it?
I believe the government should encourage traditional values and enforce them with financial (and not criminal) penalties. For example, I believe that married couples who divorce should be required to pay tax to the government just like people have to pay inheritance taxes upon death.
I'm conservative and believe in traditional values for myself,
Other people should live how they see fit as long as it doesn't affect me and my family or american kids..
Dont get on tv telling the world your trans sexual, thats Rude ,and extremely selfish and violates a child's mind

My values are my own (and some of them might even be considered "traditional"). I see no need to impose them on others, nor should others impose their values on me or anyone else. The government does not get to tell me how to think, nor should it tell any other person what to believe, either. The last thing we need in this country is the thought police. The government already oversteps itself in thousands of ways - no need to encourage it to do even more.
If you feel the need to have a "nanny" government tell you what to do, maybe you should just join a cult and mindlessly drink kool-aide at the command of your cult leader.
Do you believe the government should enforce "traditional values"?
I am conservative and believe that the state should enforce traditional values
I am conservative and support traditional values but they should be up to the individual and not be enforced
I am moderate and believe that the state should enforce traditional values
I am liberal and each person's values is their own. This is America
The poll seems to be lacking some options
