Hypothetically, if America was divided into two countries--one that was far-left and the other far-right--what do you think those countries would look like? How would they operate? What would the people and culture be like?

One of the halves would certainly be a Christian Right theocracy.

In my opinion, one would prosper, one would eventually fail. Then hopefully the one that failed would learn from it and become more like the other.

True, the far right side would collapse because they won't be benefitting from the $$ from the blue donor side...

Far left would operate more like CA and NY.

The liberal country would look a lot like Canada. It would be democratic-socialist and isolationist. The new Confederate States would be like Afghanistan, only with the Baptist church in charge instead of radical Islam. Watch the show "A Handmaid's Tale" to see what every day life in Oklahoma or Alabama would look like following the breakup of the United States.

And unfortunately Oklahoma would be a part of it. If this ever happened, I would do everything I could to get to at least New Mexico or Colorado while I could. As a gay man, even though I am mostly closeted, I am out to enough people and my Internet history is incriminating enough that I could end up hanging from a rope.

The left one would go down one of two paths:

1) if it foolishly maintains open borders, it'd collapse very quickly. Letting the country be the world's welcome mat is just not sustainable.

2) if it actually sets and enforces immigration laws that bring in the best without displacing current citizens, it'd probably turn out very similar to Canada or Australia. It'd be a country with a high standard of living, happy citizens, a clean and safe environment. But perhaps it wouldn't be known for its mega corporations. Another change would be that there would be laws against hate speech. And say hello to much stricter gun laws.

The Republican country would likely end up with low rates of literacy and access to proper health care or clean water and high rates of violence and pollution. What they lack in standard of living and human dignity though, they'd make up for in the success of their industrial factories and the wealth of the top few. The rest of the population would mostly have to live on under $2 a day. Child labor would make a return. Churches would try to help the poor and needy, but it wouldn't be enough. So the country would be a beneficiary of international NGOs and charities from more developed countries. Laws would be very draconian, and law enforcement very militaristic.

The liberal one would be invaded and wiped out.
Not by a foreign military, the idiots would invite their own doom with open borders, they would soon be under Sharia.

Ahh well, I can dream.
