There are numerous businesses being hit including telecoms companies, car manufacturers and numerous other sectiors right across the globe indeed it's hit 74 countries. Obviously it is even more distressing when emergency services such as hospital and Emergency Hospital Departments are hit.

The OS patch was available in March. The Windows Defender is now updated to detect the virus after this outbreak.

Yet nobody, I assume, will get the obvious message from this incident: we are WAY too dependent on computer technology and high-tech in general, with no backup plan.

It was a solid O/S. they extended support for many organisations including US govt

For hospitals, most of these machines aren't connected to the internet. But yeah - they need to upgrade

A next version is already supposed to be out that ignores the doman that shut it off. It is still averaging less than $1 for each site it's infected FOR THE WORLD'S MOST MASSIVE CYBERATTACK! The criminals probably could've netted more money by putting up a GoFundMe page.

China is going to be the one to watch. Most of their pirated copies have windows update turned off.
