372 opiod deaths among the 15 million California latinos, that is rate of 2 per 100,000 people. Shockingly, some overwhelmingly white cities in Ohio have drug overdose death rates of 100,000 per 100,000 people.
'
365 opiod deaths among the million or so White New Hampshire residents.
589 in West Virginia among the 1.5 million or so white West Virginia residents
Nevada has around 900,000 latinos and in 2015 had just 37 hispanic fatal drug overdodses for a rate around 4 deaths per 100,000 people.
Overwhelmingly, white Middleton, Ohio had 52 fatal drug overdoses with a population of 48,000 people for a rate of over 100 deaths per 100,000 people
I have always wondered why Southern California with the number of latino's has such a low death rate due to overdoses.
Los Angeles County and San Bernadino County I believe have some of the lowest illicit drug death rates in America.
It is interesting with the amount of drug trafficking in California that the southern part of the state which has most of the latinos has such an extremely low rate of drug overdose deaths.

It is but I do not that states like South Dakota and North Dakota (overwhelmingly white states) have a rate much lower than the Hispanics of Cali. It's worth studying to figure out why states like Ohio, Kentucky, New Hampshire have such very high rates versus South and North Dakota and Cali with much lower rates.
I believe that I just read that California is only behind Hawaii when it comes to least amount of opioid addiction and deaths per 100,000.
For those who are interested in Ohio's connection to opioids, JD Vance's Hillbilly Elegy (Middletown, Ohio) and Sam Quinones's Dreamland (Portsmouth, Ohio) are excellent books - - some of my favorite reads over the last couple of years.
I live near Middletown OH, it is a redneck white trash hellhole, It was not always that way, things were OK when I was a teenager 40 years ago but once the downward spiral hit anyone with the means to leave did so. Nearby Franklin OH is just as bad if not worse.
It shows that as a Race, Hispanics are stronger than their White counter-parts when it comes to dealing with pain and managing pain medications. Blacks, too, since their over-dose rate is on a par with Hispanics, if not lower.
We used to refer to Middletown and Hamilton! as Middle-tucky and Hamil-tucky, since they were full of Appalachian rejects from Kentucky, of course.
It's tragic. Never been to Ohio or West Virginia but heard stories from business contacts. Not sure what is going on with my fellow white folks and heroine. Seems like a loss of industries in the rest belt may be a factor. Not sure why anyone would touch that poison

I should have said some cities in Ohio have rates of 100 per 100,000 people.
It is rather shocking that the rate is so high though and I wonder what is the reason for the low rates among West Coast latinos and the high rates in certain cities in the eastern states of the Midwest.
