There isn't a double standard. Maher's joke was decried on the left, and some are calling for his show to be cancelled, like Chance the Rapper, Deray McKesson, the BLM leader.

The response was justified, the usage of language that many consider to be a racial slur was not.

Maher has only one concern and that is legalization of pot. He would have voted for George Bush if Bush promised to legalize marijuana.

Unfortunately he benefits from the 'liberal joke protection program' just like Colbert and the rest.

I'm all about free speech but if someone on the right said what he just said, it would be covered 24/7 by CNN and MSNBC.

Well, it is ok with The View. Joy Behar turned it around and blamed Trump. In fairness, according to her Trump is the blame for everything now.

To be honest, It doesn't come up much. My friends don't discuss it as we are not consumed by the race issue. I don't know many people like you, most of my friends and associates are of random colors, not of a specific stereotype and so the word is not used or discussed to any real extent. /shrug
