Right. which is what a lot of people apparently don't see. Comey has shown a bit too much of a tendency to enjoy the spotlight. Not something you want from your FBI director. Obama could have fired him last fall (though it would have looked bad because Comey's public appearances hurt Obama's ally and it would have looked like revenge). Trump could, and should have fired him right away and nobody would have blinked. But now, and this is what Comey laid out very well yesterday, there's the appearance of Trump firing Comey because Comey wouldn't do his bidding re: Flynn and "being loyal." Even IF Trump didn't fire Comey for those reasons, his timing was horrible. The best case scenario for the president is that it looks like he's unable to weigh the consequences of a big decision. It reaffirms the image of a childish, impulsive president which is dangerous. Worst case scenario for the president is that he was trying to cover something and Comey's testimony added weight to that argument even though there was no smoking gun.
Meanwhile I take note that you are strangely silent about what Loretta Lynch did concerning the Hillary Clinton investigation. Lots to come on that one.
There's that double standard again.
Many posters have mentioned it. It's been published by all of the "MSM" outlets. It's not a double standard.
There's a lot to be learned from the Loretta Lynch thing. Namely, that many people who didn't vote for Clinton chose not to do so because she represented the "Washington Machine"- the "swamp" and Loretta Lynch trying to meddle with the investigation reinforces that sentiment.
However, there are major differences here. Here are a few:
1) Clinton, Lynch, and Obama are no longer in office. Investigate them, and even prosecute if something criminal comes to light. But at the end of the day, none of those three individuals are currently working in Government. It's a terrible look and validates what a lot of people thought about them in the first place, but it doesn't involve anyone currently serving in government. Trump is currently serving as president.
2) Lynch recused herself from the investigation after the woefully ill-advised tarmac meeting with Bill because she was clearly no longer capable of objectively serving. Trump, on the other hand, fired Comey when he didn't do what Trump wanted him to do.
3) There's a significant difference between word play to make an investigation seem less negative, and pressuring someone to drop it altogether. If Loretta Lynch had gone to Comey and said "“She is a good person. I hope you can let this go.” The right would lose their minds. If she said “I need loyalty, I expect loyalty.” The right would be be calling for her head. But when Trump does it, it's "a nothingburger" or "he's new to this." THAT's your double standard.
“That report by the New York Times was not true. Is that a fair statement?” he asked.
“In the main, it was not true,” Comey replied. “The challenge, and I’m not picking on reporters about writing stories about classified information, is that people talking about it often don’t really know what’s going on and those of us who actually know what’s going on are not talking about it.”
Later in the hearing, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) asked Comey, “Would it be fair to characterize that story as almost entirely wrong?”
“Yes,” Comey replied. “Did you have at the time that story was published any indication of any contact between Trump people and Russians, intelligence officers, other government officials or close associates of the Russian government?” Cotton pressed.
“That’s one I can’t answer sitting here,” Comey said. NY Times Looking Into Story Comey Agreed Was ‘Almost Completely Wrong’ – Talking Points Memo
That refers to ONE story in one NEWSPAPER and before you get too excited about it pay attention to the sentence above in bold text
I am certain that the part in red is the part giving his attorney's heartburn. Comey effectively declined to admit PUBLICLY that there was "contact between Trump people and Russians, intelligence officers, other government officials or close associates of the Russian government".
Information that is not YET in the public realm.
If there was none, he could have said so.
I am glad that PuTrumpTin was STUPID enough to pick a fight with the intelligence community and with people who are practiced in thinking 10-15 steps ahead while PuTrumpTin can barely remember his lies from 1 hour ago.
The intelligence alphabet soup (CIA-FBI-NSA) will ALL make certain that ALL of PuTrumpTin's filth is shown the light of day.
Shhhhhhhhh! This is what I've said for months now. But they just won't quit and 45 just can't.
I know you hate Trump but Comey said what he said <red>. You also know that the MSM jumped on that story and repeated it ad nauseam as did you. That's ALL I was commenting on. Nice try though...
You can't parse Comey's remarks and claim that they prove something that they don't, you have to take the comments in their entirety and this comment has to be keeping Trump and his minions up at night:
“Did you have at the time that story was published any indication of any contact between Trump people and Russians, intelligence officers, other government officials or close associates of the Russian government?” Cotton pressed. “That’s one I can’t answer sitting here,” Comey said.
You can't claim that somehow all legitimate media outlets were determined to be 'fake news' yesterday either because that didn't happen either!
As of this second in time, there are 1075 posts in this thread right this second. It was about 975 or so last night. Had the Democrats had a better outcome yesterday, the thread total would be well into the 2 thousands by now.
It's just fascinating that you could come up with that estimate based on absolutely nothing, keep that up and Trump might have a spot for you in his administration
How many of those lies are opinions? For example Trump's statement that Comey's FBI agents lost confidence in him is a matter of opinion, not fact. That was one lie Comey accused the President of.
Then he should have said "In my opinion"! FAIL!
