Just one man's opinion, you see - the writer. Yet, it seems the collectivist, redistributionist mindset has no limits. Redistribute, redistribute, redistribute. Yes! It has to be fair. Who determines fairness? Which items, privileges, rights? By what rules, measures?

Quote:
“I am not suggesting that the top one percent should be left alone. They need to pay more tax, perhaps much more,” Reeves writes. “But if we are serious about narrowing the gap between ‘the rich’ and everybody else, we need a broader conception of what it means to be rich.”

Apologies to Janis Joplin's memory and lyrics, yet aren't we approaching or maybe even arrived at the threshold?

Oh Government, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Government, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?

Shame on my naiveté. I thought the American Dream was to make of yourself what you could, what you were willing to work for, to strive for, to achieve, to make for yourself. To then be contented with having lived the American Dream. Silly me.

Where does printing trillions of dollars to prop up Wall Street fit into this?

PLEASE do not misquote Ms. Joplin. She was asking GOD for a Mercedes Benz, NOT the government. She made her own money.

In a system of taxation, a flat tax is fair because the more you make the more yo pay.

Hypothetically, if you had a tax system with a 20% flat tax, a family making $10,000 pays $2,000 in taxes while a family making $1 million pays $200,000 in taxes.

The rich family pays $198,000 more than the poor family.

Something has to be done to bridge the inequities in income and wealth.

The top 20% of US households own more than 84% of the wealth, and the bottom 40% combine for a paltry 0.3%. The United States is now the most unequal of all Western nations. To make matters worse, America has considerably less social mobility than Canada and Europe.

If this trend continues, things will not end well.

There is both upward AND downward mobility, and the government has no business deciding who gets which.

How come this didn't apply to Wall Street? When they screwed up the government stepped in and propped them up.

To avoid such abuses, the money supply should be completely disconnected from any govt involvement.
