How do you decide who's a millionaire? Annual income? Money in the bank? Stock holdings? Property? All of the above?

If you look at net worth, you're going to have far more "millionaires" than if you only look at annual income. Most such net worth "millionaires" have either inherited property or have scrimped and saved for a long time, working hard on successful start-up companies, and making good investments over time and living frugally. If you consider these last folks "millionaires", well, then, lots of my high school classmates from middle-class backgrounds qualify.

Many of them are now retired, after long years of working. They live comfortably and with some well-chosen "luxuries" in homes in "good" neighborhoods, enjoy traveling domestically and abroad, volunteer and are generous to their charities of choice - but none of them live flamboyantly or extravagantly. A few have vacation homes - cabins on a nearby lake, etc. Some have boats. Some indulge in hobbies which can be done at either low or high cost (antique collecting, for example - one can look for sleepers or go to high-end auctions). None are "flashy". Should these folks be penalized for their successes?

Also, what do you do about folks who are land-poor? Maybe they inherited the family homestead, purchased or built long years ago by previous generations. Now that land is worth far more than its original cost - but the current owner's income is modest. Should they be forced to give up their homestead, since technically, their property's worth is a million dollars?

It would only increase the number of lazy people. Even they or their ancestors would have started at 0 at some point.

I have never seen a genuine struggling person posting on these boards. I see people who aren't struggling having a positive opinion for those who are.
How do you do it? Same way I did. Work a second job. Take a job as a laborer and learn a trade. I did.
You have never seen a person struggling waste time on the internet???????
Either you are willfully blind or live a sheltered life. Look on Facebook. We actually have a frequent poster on this forum who claims to be nearly destitute and it's the greedy landlords and property owners fault.
