This was done even though the employees already had complimentary gym memberships at the University of Nevada's campus in Las Vegas.

This is the common sense stuff that got Trump elected.
The GAO is a federal agency which sends a report to the president each year, detailing tens of billions in savings we could make. Hopefully Trump will act on it, and the Congress will pass a bill to cuts that waste, and send it to Trump's desk

According to your link, this action followed a media report earlier this year that the Nevada EPA paid $15,000 for employees to upgrade to premium memberships at a private facility even though facilities were available at no cost at the University of Nevada.

But if the government does it, it's obviously a waste.
Again - in the case of Las Vegas, and probably elsewhere - they already had free gym use at UNLV. This expenditure is unnecessary.

So that is about half of a weekend trip to Maralago or a quarter of an Eric Trump business trip.

The article mentions they already had free gym memberships at the local college. So, it is duplicating what they already had. And even if it didn't, we need to reduce the debt. They get paid plenty to provide their own gym memberships like most other people.

I agree. I'll take it. I work for aFortune 500 company and pay for my own gym membership.

Ok, true but we gotta start somewhere. At least Melania is moving into the WH.

A really short sighted, "penny wise and pound foolish" decision. Healthcare costs will increase by far more than is saved.

Are you are saying that these EPA personnel are petty enough to forego taking care of themselves because this perk has been removed?

Seems like a ridiculous assertion on your part. But if you are right, then that's their problem.

$700 billion for bank bailouts: not government waste.

$66 per person for government employee gym memberships, which probably results in net taxpayer savings due to reduced healthcare costs: government waste.

God Bless America.
