If the whole idea of saluting the flag is to recognize the sacrifice of soldiers, let's have flag-draped coffins pulled around the field by draft horses before each game.

Would be a more fitting tribute and would bring home the true cost of our endless wars.
If people really wanted to recognize our soldiers they would agree to a tax on their stock trades to bolster the V.A.
No. I believe it says something like "players should" not "players must". There is an ocean of difference between those two phrases.
Yep! The magic word is "should" not "shall".
Same as in the Flag Code. "Should" and not "Must" or "Shall". Otherwise, I would have to stand up every time the TV station sign off/on.

(a)Designation.—
The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.
(b)Conduct During Playing.—During a rendition of the national anthem—
(1) when the flag is displayed—
(A) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note;
(B) members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute in the manner provided for individuals in uniform; and
(C) all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and
(2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

Nope. The Collective Bargaining Agreement set between the players and the owners is the Bible. Owners can not make up rules as they go along without both parties in agreement and the CBA amended. I must of posted this 100 times on CD.com and people still don't get it. The relationship between the owners and the players operate as a UNION.
Nope Both parties do not get to make the rules. The CBA only covers specific regulations.
Then what are they protesting? They are protesting a widely racist, oppressive America that promotes police abuse of Blacks, as well as keeping them "down" economically, and socially. Essentially that "Whitey" is not allowing them to succeed due to racism, and bigotry. No?
