From ESPN -

"National anthem protests were the top reason that NFL fans watched fewer games last season, according to a new survey released by J.D. Power.

The pollster said it asked more than 9,200 people who attended either one football, basketball or hockey game whether they tuned into fewer games and why. Twenty-six percent of those who watched fewer games last season said that national anthem protests, some of which were led by Colin Kaepernick, were the reason"

National anthem protests No. 1 reason viewers tuned out NFL games

I'm a Jets fan, that's my excuse. I could care less about Colin Kaepernick.

I tuned out years ago.

And it has nothing to do with protests.

The NFL has morphed into an advertising franchise that still has a little bit of football content.

It takes them 4 hours to televise 60 minutes of football. Because the other 3 hours are commercials for light beer, viagra, and pickups.

I've been watching fewer Dodger games than in the past, but that's because greedy corporations refuse to show them to me.

Funny, national anthems aren't part of the broadcast.

If you crunch the numbers, that amounts to 3% of respondents. Knowing what we know about these sorts of calls (that elderly people are most likely to participate), i'm not surprised that a handful of old bigots would stop watching football because of Kaepernick.

We just went to a Red Sox/Yankee game at Fenway park as guests of the Red Sox foundation as part of a party for Vietnam veterans. I want to thank them for their gift.

At the game we were harassed by a group of loud preppie drunks and could not see the game all that well. It was also, considering hotel, food and taxies, the most expensive gift I ever had. Together they took some of the pleasure out of the weekend. I still appreciate the Team's efforts.

If I ever want to see a baseball game in a real stadium we will attend out local Manchester, NH Fishercats farm team. The game is closer and the stadium not a crowded. In the meantime I will occasionally watch on TV. The broadcast game is easier to see and follow.

Note: When I was a child in school I tried to play baseball and other sports. As I had 20/400 myopia, trying was the appropriate word.

I have been watching less and less of the NFL because the game is simply not what it used to be, the anthem protests are just the icing on the cake. I realize it's for player safety but I miss the days of say McMahon limping around on the field with basically a cast on his leg and Madden talking about "parts" getting fixed. It's lost a lot of excitement.

I watch less because the games are not as good. It just does not seem like the players are as good either. And the constant show-boating just takes up too much time. It is hard to devote 4 hours to a game that has less than an hour of action. Same reason I seldom watch baseball anymore, and never watch soccer.
Soccer is like watching paint dry.

bigots? What an odd thought.

If football players don't respect the country, why wouldn't it make sense that a significant percentage of people who do (especially those who served) tune out. (especially if they weren't rabid fans to begin with)

I tuned out on baseball (for several years) when they went on strike in the 90s. Tuned out on pro football in the 80s when the Oilers left Houston.

What kind of odd duck would equate racism with whether or not someone is tired of watching a game that offers an inferior product (than it used to) & tries to inject politics into entertainment?

Stopped watching the Academy Awards 12-15 years ago to (when Shakespere in Love won over Private Ryan). Sometimes a consumer just needs a little push to move them to another product.
