This Leftist from India who got herself elected to the City Council on the Socialist Alternative Party ticket, has pushed through a new income tax on anyone making over $250K ($500K for joing filers). This woman claims to accept only $40,00 of her $117,000 salary, but there are all kinds of red flags as to the accounting for the rest of her salary. This screams for a tax evasion investigation, or fraud.
It will be interesting to see how this turns out. The $15/hr min. wage she was instrumental in pushing through in Seattle has not turned out well for those affected by it, who are actually earning $125/mo. less since it's enactment, if they are lucky enough to still have a job.
This is the problem with socialist/Leftist thinking. In fact, they don't think. Leftists "feel," they don't know how to think.
Are you aware of what's been happening in CA for the last two or three decades? People are leaving. Businesses are leaving. Brown and his government raise taxes to compensate. Repeat. We had enough. We left.
You don't have to tell me twice... I live in SF now. CA is quickly if not already approaching the breaking point but Seattle is still in good territory. I do not see people fleeing the state due to a 2% income tax on just the city. Heck, if that were true, I wouldn't need to fight a queue of people just to snag a 3 bedroom for less than $2m in Manhattan.
And again I say, who is losing out in this scenario? WA keeps Gates. Suburb gets Gates. And there is still a LONG line of people willing to pay for the luxury of living in Seattle.

They won't flee the state. They'll flee Seattle and move just outside the city limits. Easy to do in Seattle as it's not all that big of a city.

I disagree. It's a small area. Don't have to live within the Seattle city limits to experience Seattle's business/cultural attractions.

True. I wish it wasn't true, we have way way too many people moving here. We'll see if the tax passes, it's come up before but it typically gets voted down.

Right... I don't see this as a big issue. I think Seattle is starting to have a lot of issues due to their "hot" job/housing market and they need more resources to control it. Like SF, homelessness is becoming a big issue. Who's going to pay to manage that? I don't think it should be people in the 'burbs or elsewhere in the state so it kind of makes sense that city-residents pay to clean up the cities. I believe the city does need this money.
With that said, one has to wonder just how much money this is going to actually bring in?
