Consumerism does not fall from the sky, it is deliberately created by the economy, for example via marketing and planned obsolescence.

Gentrification by a decree? That's not capitalism.

One thing I have noticed over the years is that the whole accusation that only private businesses are run well is flat wrong. There are many public, state-controlled organizations in my country, for instance in public transport, utilities etc. Some of them are run very well, others not, just like with private companies. After all, all organizations are run by people, some of whom are more competent, others less so. Many times the very same managers actually switch from private to state-run companies and vice versa.

Do you understand the definition of "well"?

There is not one single example that a state owned company runs "well".

You are right, but that's not classic capitalism. It's greed manipulating the capitalist system. Capitalism is in many ways, neutral.
At the other extreme, conservatives accuse Carl Marx of Stalin's "communist" crimes. But stalin didn't implement Marx's communism. Another example: although N. Korea is considered "communist", Kim Jong Un is anything but.
Speaking of "capitalism" - currently US adopted another non capitalist system. It's called corporatism.

My definition of well in this context is a) do the job and b) not pile up debt in doing so.

How about cost reduction, more capacity, faster service etc. etc. over the time? That would be the definition "well."

This is probably a overly simplistic question, but I am curious if people view the economic growth / reform of China in the last few decades a FOR or AGAINST on Socialism.

Do you even know the difference between "communism" and "socialism"?

I'm guessing not.
