Why? If everyone lived like US Americans or Gulf Arabs, we would need about 4 planets Earth. Only thanks to billions of poor people does the world not collapse, for the time being.
One thing I have noticed over the years is that the whole accusation that only private businesses are run well is flat wrong. There are many public, state-controlled organizations in my country, for instance in public transport, utilities etc. Some of them are run very well, others not, just like with private companies. After all, all organizations are run by people, some of whom are more competent, others less so. Many times the very same managers actually switch from private to state-run companies and vice versa.

Do you understand the definition of "well"?
There is not one single example that a state owned company runs "well".
One big problem I see with capitalism is that it is based on growth, which leads to many of the unhealthy developments we can see around us. Too much production, too much consumption, too much pollution, too much competition, too much greed, too much inequality, etc. - too much of everything. Everything seems to get infested with the money virus.
You are right, but that's not classic capitalism. It's greed manipulating the capitalist system. Capitalism is in many ways, neutral.
At the other extreme, conservatives accuse Carl Marx of Stalin's "communist" crimes. But stalin didn't implement Marx's communism. Another example: although N. Korea is considered "communist", Kim Jong Un is anything but.
Speaking of "capitalism" - currently US adopted another non capitalist system. It's called corporatism.
This is probably a overly simplistic question, but I am curious if people view the economic growth / reform of China in the last few decades a FOR or AGAINST on Socialism.
I reside in Brazil where the major left-wing party has publicly demonstrated support to Maduro. How come people still think that communism and socialism works?
Do you even know the difference between "communism" and "socialism"?
I'm guessing not.
