It's a tweet citing a news story from last October. When, as has been happening for a couple of decades now, people are trying to get Columbus Day renamed.

It's a relevant subject line, put in proper context though. Things won't stop with Confederate statues and monuments. Other historical period memorials will be targeted. I look for cemeteries to start getting vanalized and other such goons acts. Revolutionary War, on up through Vietnam Nam will be in the crosshairs. Teddy Roosevelt in a racist light? Hell, the possibilities are endless here. Somebody can find a way to be offended in anything these days.
Personally, I don't like the Japanese Rising Sun banner. I see rice racers flying it all the time. I see no difference twixt it and a Nazi flag in historical context. The atrocities committed under that flag were every bit as horrible as what was done under the swastika. A Confederate battle flag on a pickup will draw fire from all quarters, but a Rising Sun on a street racer is thought to be cool.
In what imagery someone finds reason to feel offense is quite subjective. I've been told by people on here my distaste for the Rising Sun is unfounded, silly etc, while in the same breath they scoring the battle flag in any context. They have a right to their offensive feelings, but I don't to mine, in other words. Thing is, I won't even give any visible reaction to most things I find distasteful. I don't fly off the handle at the mere sight of a Rising Sun.
I won't generally even at a Nazi flag, because I don't want to give whatever bone head is flying it the satisfaction of knowing they got under my skin. From where I'm sitting people really need to rein it in with this getting all bu cheddar up over anything even loosely seen as having a racial connotation. Things really have gone over the top. Blatant attacks on someone's sensibilities is one thing. But seeing such around every corner is just paranoia or looking for a reason.
In addition to the issues raised in previous posts, I would ask you the following:
Did the protestors show up wielding torches and go on to terrorize the surrounding community by chanting Nazi slogans?
Were they carrying weapons and and outfitted in homemade riot gear?
Did they chase a black man into a parking garage and beat him with flag poles and 2x4s?
Did anyone mow down twenty people with a car?
Or did they just come, speak their piece, and then go home?
Yeah, I thought so.
Someone isn't aware of the D.C. shootings of a just a few months ago by a rabid leftie, past and ONGOING violence directed at Trump supporters, violent "protests" by the left in which innocent bystanders have been physically assaulted, and property vandalized, regular campus melees during which it's commonplace to call Republicans "nazis" and, oh yeah, 5 cops killed last year at one BLM "protest."

Yeah. I thought not.
The DC shooter went there pretty much on his own, he wasn't invited as part of some protest. I guess the difference is that everyone universally condemned the prior attacks for what they were, we didn't hear a democratic leader indicate "all sides" are at fault. Yet here we have Trump and his administration with a rather watered down initial response, condemning white supremacist should have been an easy one. A Nazi lover on his way to a white supremacist march and he makes a wrong turn running over 20 people and it took 2 days for a grudging response.
