The ones who fill numerous graveyards with crosses and are listed on memorial walls, are they the white supremacists pre-1960 that are you are referring to in your tweet.
If the city's where the statues are located vote to take them down, then sure go ahead and do it, but don't destroy these statues, put them in museums, not to honor them but so that we as a nation remember how we got where we are today.
The US doesn't have the history that China or Russia has, we are still a young country and removing items from the past and destroying them just because it makes others uncomfortable is wrong. This isn't North Korea different opinions are allowed here, the KKK has the right to have their protests, as disgusting and vile as they are. Keep removing teachable moments from this country's history and we won't have a history left.
Bill Maher made a great point the other night during an interview, no one will see it because Liberals refuse to accept it, and since its Bill Maher, Conservatives refuse to even listen to it. It's basically this, Berkeley is wrong and so are a bunch of it's students, you should be at college to broaden your mind, and it's ok if something makes you feel uncomfortable, in life people need to learn how to deal with differing opinions, and just because their opinions are different from yours, those opinions won't kill you. Enough of the nanny state crap!!
Let's be honest here. The Left (Liberal/Progressives/Democrats, etc) want to eventually nullify the Constitution. It is an obstacle to the Progressive Utopia (Fascist controlling state) that they have been creating. Trump was another obstacle, so he must be removed as a Russian collaborator. Oh wait, no, that didn't work. Ok, Trump's a racist! That's it!
So, the Founding Fathers, and the American Flag is next, followed by elements of the Constitution that are Racist, Sexist, Homophobic, Islamophobic, etc, like Free Speech which allows 'HATE SPEECH".

Interesting article. We must also remember that most of these statutes on public property started to be erected 40+ years after the end of the war (the Lee statute at issue this past weekend was in 1924).
I also saw where Lee's great-great-grandson (Robert E. Lee V) also said that he had no problem with removing the statute.
Plenty of statutes to view in our National Parks devoted to the Civil War battles, including of Lee. That is where they belong. If I were a black person in the South, I would probably not enjoy going to the county courthouse and walking beneath a statute of, say, Stonewall Jackson, whom was not a friend to those with dark pigmentation (of course, Jackson also spent much of his time sucking on lemons, thinking they held off a variety of ailments).
We don't have statues celebrating American's enemies like Viet Cong, Nazi's, or the Iraqi Republican Guard, only the brave soldiers who fought against them. If these people (White Nationalists) want to celebrate and be associated with a bunch of morally degenerate losers, they can do it in their own back yards.
The problem with the Civil War is that for the Confederacy, it was at least in part a war fought to preserve the institution of slavery. In the year 2017, that is seen as an immoral motive. I can see the problem with statues honoring those who supported that effort. Indians wars were somewhat different in that there were no geographic boundary lines guiding white settlers, and Indian attacks were not uncommon. So though there were differences in technology and eventually, in numbers, American military battles against the Indians is a different prospect. The immorality of it is not clear-cut. Fighting against Hitler would not have that same issue, obviously.
It was moreso in preserving the right for states to govern themselves without interference from the government. That was what our Constitution was founded on. Now, part of preserving those rights at the time did include slavery. Having grown up in those times it wasn't looked upon as immoral, but instead a normal part of life. It was only in hindsight that people began to gain clarity of the situation. Every country had slaves at some point, and many fought over it before slavery was abolished. People remember their history but they use that history to better tomorrow. Not to try and shame those whose ancestors were on the "wrong side" into believing that their part of history needs to be wiped from the records. Those were times when people were not quite as civilized as our society is today. Through time comes clarity. In 100 years, our society may look back on these times and think that we were animals.
That doesn't mean that the memorials should be torn down. The memorials help to explain a very turbulent time in history where two sides disagreed over how the country should be ran. Those called to arms fought to preserve their home and their families, and their way of life. Right or wrong. They also serve as a reminder over what our country overcame to be what we are today.
If you look at our military today, we still do this same thing. We fight wars in other people's home land with the purpose of preserving our way of live and introducing our way of life to other countries. That group of people disagrees with our views and considers us to be wrong, and vice versa. How is that different than the Civil War? We disagree with them, but for them, this way of life is the only one they know.
Wars with Native Americans is no different either. They were seeking to preserve their way of life against those who tried to encroach upon it. They fought tooth and nail to preserve it from someone who wants to change it.
If you look at any war in history, the purpose is not much different in any of them. One side invades, and one side protects. The difference is that sometimes the invaders believe they are protecting.
