That's the funny part. NPR did a survey and found that 62% of Americans think the statues should stay. The ONLY area of the country that thought they should come down was the Northeast, and even there it was like 52/48.
It's to remind German nazies of their crimes. But these confederate statues are a reminder to blacks that some people still honor those who fought to keep them in chains.
I'm wondering how any sane person could consider the flag a sign of pride knowing what it stood for. Are you sayiing the south just took some negative and attempted to make it positive?
It's quite arrogant of Northerners to tell Southerners what their flag means.
They lost the civil war to the north. So they should really not even have the right to have these statues or their flags. And why are they even celebrating the fact that they Lost? It would be like the losing football team flying their school flag around the football field after a loss. Hey everyone, let's celebrate and draw attention to being losers!
Oh for heaven's sake.
If you don't know why, maybe you should spend some time pondering the first amendment.
Their town, their money, they get to buy whatever statue they damn well please.
The right is against participation trophies. Why should they get a statue - they lost.
Not just the right. It's only the extreme left who want them torn down. Moderate Democrats want them left alone as well. 62% of all Americans feel the statues and monuments should be left alone. Your position is an extremist one, not a mainstream one.

So it is a reminder of one of the things the war was about. I don't see why people are all so offended by statues now but haven't been in the past. Many of these statues have been up 100 years or more. Why now is not being offended a right. Don't look at the statue, how about that?
Putting up monuments has nothing to do with winning or losing. One of the reasons can be honoring the dead. When you think of how many of the Civil War dead were unidentified, having a monument with the names of the dead in the county they came from was a suitable way to honor them.
I don't know if this is true or not, I read it somewhere that "Battlefield Cross." came from the Civil War where the bodies of fallen soldiers were buried on the battlefield. Their rifle with bayonet attached would be stuck at the head of the grave with the hat on top. This clearly indicated where bodies lye so that after the battle they could go back through to recover the dead.
