Why are places like houston, prone to massive flooding time and time again, and florida coastal areas growing and growing and growing. Florida dodged a bullet , if it was a direct hit this could have been even more astronomical

All these sunbelt politicians love growth and development because they can pad their economic numbers with housing starts, construction jobs etc, but the federal taxpayer is going to have to pick up the bill for all these people wanting a piece of paradise.

We are talking hundreds of billions of dollars of damage because of irma and harvey. Joel Myers, president of AccuWeather, predicted on Monday the cost of Irma and Harvey combined could reach a total of $290 billion!

All so people can live in places massive amounts of people shouldnt be living in! Houston and Florida should not be as highly populated as they are

I have been saying this forever. Humans are their own worst enemies. We build up places that should never have been built up and hoping that man-made structures will hold nature back. Nature wins every time and humans never learn from it. I just look at it as population control.

Then we should relocate these folks to a place in the US that has no threat of natural disaster. When you find that place, get back to me. In the meantime, carry on.....

Its narcissism. As long as the person in North Dakota is subsidizing their lifestyle with these bailouts (tax dollars) and relief efforts they dont care. Make them pay triple the insurance premium with no handouts and they might think twice.

Place I have on water in Fla cost 5k in flood and 3K in hurricane. How much is flood and house insurance in ND? I would bet about 6 times less.

Humans are their worst enemies. Look at all the forests that are torn down for development that otherwise would help with controlling flooding.

I agree with this 100% . Its good to see miltary equipment being used in rescue operations in the keys. Our taxpayer money goes to alot of foreign aid as well that should be spent here on infrastructure
