I don't see the big deal. Didn't kids in the 50s do that during summer for "pocket money"?
Sheesh, I did it from the 80's to the 90's, it pays much better than minimum wage, besides most jobs won't hire you until you are 16, I started at 12 to save for a car, then insurance, then girls come along and they want nice crap. I'm perfect for mindless manual labor.
Thank you Obama. I don't support everything he did, not by a longshot, but the guarantee of healthcare for all is one of the main catalysts that allows people to leave their employer and go out on their own. Without that ability, it will be much harder to be self-employed. Yes, there are many other barriers, some of which Obama supported (boo to that!), but this is one of the biggest.
Have you seen what the costs, and deductibles are for Obamacare if you actually earn a living? What are you smoking? Part of the CHOOM GANG, huh?
Would never happen. Work is too much like slavery.
Seen your pay check lately; count the money you earned but did not receive? ... exactly like it if you ask me. But it did go for a good cause as there are senators whose children are headed for the most elite colleges America has to offer, we must be proud.
I wonder if he paid him or stiffed him like he does all his other contractors.
LOL, I wondered the same thing.
But its a cute story. Glad the kid got to come and mow the lawn. Trump should do more with kid-preneurs IMO - get them some exposure for their businesses since he known for being a businessman, that would go a nice thing to do.
But on the quote above, it did say he worked with the grounds keepers. I doubt he was paid but he probably just wanted the experience.

Kids still do this. My teenager cuts lawns in the summer he does contract work cutting vacant lots for our county. They pay private citizens to do it and it is a decent pay grade.
I also know a few 10-12 year olds who cut grass. One of my neighbor boys does full landscaping - weeding, mulching, planting, and mowing. He can even do small retaining walls! I have him help me in my garden when my kid isn't available.
FWIW I live in a very diverse neighborhood. My kid is black, as is the full landscaping kid, there is a white kid who lives on the corner who also does lawns and around the corner a Latino kid who does lawns. They all vie for the business in our neighborhood and are eager to do some work.
Contrary to what people say about our youth, they are nice, decent, hardworking kids for the most part in my opinion.

Come live in Baltimore for a spell. The kids here will change your opinion.
I'm fine with the kids determination and willing to do the work. I think the father should have at least taught him how to cut and handle the unit before putting him on global display. He missed patches, and I attribute that to the father not having taught him how to overlap the lines enough not to leave uncut sprouts in his lines. Or how to go in a block pattern.
Sadly, the kids father likely has not cut much grass; and the father should know it is about much more than a photo op. This is a good moment for the kid and certainly something the kid will remember for the rest of his life.
other than that... I think its a good thing when kids are acknowledged for honest efforts they make.
It's good Trump came out and acknowledged him.
As ironic as history is, who knows... within 33 yrs or so, this kid might occupy the Whitehouse.
