Amazing, how ultra, ultra Republican states like Wyoming, Alaska and Utah have the lowest income disparities.
I can see why they have such a massive income disparity. Big, liberal cities have these knowledge based economies based on shuffling money around, lawyers, health care establishments rampant overbilling taxpayers for health-care and federal reserve banks that give low-teaser rates to big city based banks bet on bubbles.
In the future it will get interesting as big American cities have a large number of people living in third-world conditions, no middle-class and small, ultra-wealthy elite with connections.
Glad there are still ultra-conservative places like Ogden, Gillette and Juneau that have middle-class American values and a tangible economy.

Many "equal pay" liberals only want those with more than them to have their money taken from them. Since NYC is filled with a lot of rich liberals, they aren't going to go after themselves, so it's ok for NYC to have such inequities.
Poor people are attracted by the wealth in big cities. We live in the UNITED states. Free movement of people. How Alabama treats its poor affects everyone.
Instead of focusing on the real issue: the massive growth in inequality across the land, causing the economic ruling class to buy the political system, and how to combat this situation, you instead want to bicker about the liberals.
What you call "middle class states" like Utah have inequality like Latin American countries like Argentina, Peru and El Salvador...Gini of 42...
And red states such as Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi are also in the same league. Meanwhile blue states near the top of the list such as Hawaii, Maryland and Minnesota are conveniently forgotten by the OP. Yes, Maryland! Maryland does even better than South Dakota!

This is due to the super elite and super wealthy, real estate moguls and investors as you said. They want every city to have a housing crisis and bubble because this shoots the value of property sky high.
Furthermore this locks people into a paycheck to paycheck lifestyle that they can't break out of so you're basically looking at a nation of slaves for the wealthy and corporate America.
This is all by design. They are engineering this every day they breath and have been for years.

Huh? Alaska has the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the country.
Those conservative rural areas don't sound like they are doing that great to me.

The GINI score is a misleading number. I doubt if the poor in NY live anything like the poor in Rio.
