Nobody should be FORCED to do anything. However, it's entirely reasonable that we should encourage people to WANT to be patriotic towards the country that allows them the option not to be. It's that freedom thing everyone goes on about that everyone should want to be praising and the way we do it is through the symbolic acts we've created over time...the pledge, the anthem, the flag. When talking about a concept it's not easy to bring it to life but this is how we've done it.

It's not a problem for me if people refuse to take part for whatever reasons and I won't lie, I've always found the way we do thing to be odd and questioned it myself. But in the end I realized that there is very little that actually ties any of us together so we shouldn't spit on the things we created to that that. If you've really exhausted every other way of protesting and pushing for change and the only option you see is destroying/disrespecting these things (and everyone who holds them dear) you should probably just head elsewhere, since America clearly isn't your cup of tea! Those things represent the freedom to leave as well . Not everyone has that option.

This thread and several others like it, are such a sad reflection on our country today. We had a neighborhood party in he street yesterday and the conversation was, frankly, of a very sad tone.
Everyone agreed that we barely recognize the America we love.

Oh, please!

Respect for the flag and one's country is called patriotism. Those who disrespect either are not worthy of respect or admiration. It's that simple.

Maybe. But they're not worthy of reproach by the government. If you support that, then you're not worthy of respect or admiration.

And by the same token, we do not have to respect them, nor do they deserve any admiration. Those who disrespect our flag and what it stands for are not worthy of respect. They may disagree with some policy, but to disrespect the flag and our national anthem is disrespecting the entire country and those who fought and died for their freedom.

They are over paid spoiled brats. I wouldn't pay a dime to watch one of their games and support their inflated egos (and salaries). It takes no brains to play a game for money, and clearly these players have none. Let them starve.

What you (and the President) clearly don't get is that there is no separation between Trump the Public Leader and Trump the Private Citizen. It's the same principle why Supreme Court justices don't go around publicly opining on policy matters they may judge. Most public servant understand that their duties to office most not be tainted by their expressions as private citizens.
What retaliation? Not buying tickets to the games? That's voting with your wallet. For those who disagree with these dumb asses, that is entirely their right, and it is appropriate.

What Trump said was right. I stand with him. These people have no right to demand our respect. Screw them! Nobody gives a damn what they think. They are entertainers, nothing more. They should keep their politics to themselves. They have politicized the sport like the Leftist Hollywood elites have politicized the film industry. Nobody is interested in their personal lives or their politics, but they keep trying to shove their idiotic beliefs down our throats. They are ignorant, ungrateful, over pampered children. Most movies today are agitprop. Nothing more.

And as far as the Supreme Court goes, you're dead wrong! They have commented on policy matters thay may be before them, a clear violation of ethics. Where have you been?

What nonsense.
What qualifies you to give you political opinions any more than an athlete or entertainer?

According to your BOY, they should all lose their jobs for not standing, even knelling with their hand over their heart is unacceptable. Maybe we should ask trump what is his favorite part of he Constitution, think he will have a better answer then when he was asked about his favorite part of the Bible?
