When did the flag and anthem become idols that people worship? You guys treat them like Jesus.
Hmmm... having respect for the country you live in, the flag, and the anthem isn't idolizing it. Of course, I wouldn't expect to see any liberals having much respect for anything about America.
The left did idolize Obama, though. Put him on a pedestal even though he did more for illegals, refugees, and terrorists than he ever did for his own citizens. That is not worthy of any respect, and he got none from me.
This is simply reminding the players of a rule (an enforceable league rule, not merely operational policy) that has been in place for decades. Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf was fined over $30k by the NBA for refusing to stand for the anthem...in 1996.

You're exalting the symbols instead of what they represent, while opposing what they do represent. And I have no respect for this country after what Trump, Republicans, and his cave-dwelling followers have done to it. This country is just as bad as Russia.

Some may have, most didn't. I never did, and in fact was quite critical of him at times. But Obama wasn't viewed as an infallible god by 1/3 of the population like Trump is.
Honestly, I believe this is a matter for the players and the management to work out amongst themselves.
I don't watch professional sports, other than the occasional baseball game, so it really wasn't on the radar for me until Trump put it there. On the rare occasions I heard about it, I tended to sympathize with the players.
The thing is, now our esteemed president (choke) has made it a free speech issue by saying, "You have to stand."
No. That is not up to him. Not his choice, not his call. He can express his opinion, just like every other person in this country, but he cannot command people to stand just because he thinks they should.
You do not have to be opposed to Trump, or on the side of the players who choose to take a knee, to have an issue with this kind of dictatorial statement. All you have to do is think.
