I am a hardcore in the sense that I want what thus far have proven to be solidly conservative judiciary appointments. Less 'living' document, subjective justices - I am speaking about from federal district courts to supreme court - and more as written types.
There are decades where the Democrats have effectively used gerrymandering and brief periods where Republicans have. I am fine with both, though clearly I would prefer the Republican or other conservative party to have control of the task.
It comes down to democratic fairness approach or republican by the political parties approach. Lower case of the d and r used intentionally to make clear I do not support democracy. Unashamedly.

On one hand, neutral redistricting would certainly "drain the swamp" by making Congressional seats less safe for each political party. On the other hand, it would also reduce the number of candidates and Congressmen with extreme views on both sides, including extreme nationalist (Bannonist?) and right wing views and therefore take away clout from that sect of candidates.
This is not meant to be an attack on anyone - I am legitimately curious.
