When you're the most powerful and richest nation on earth, debt doesn't exist. In any case, most of the trillion dollars of debt we owe, is money we owe to ourselves in the Federal Reserve. If we need money, we just print it.

It does fluctuate during the course of a year. It dipped the first month or two of Mr. Trump's presidency, and will (hopefully) dip down again. I know little about this subject, save that it dips during periods when money flows into the Treasure (such as tax time), and rise at other times.

However, there is no doubt that the debt is going up on an annual basis.

Richest? Defined how? We've been borrowing money for years and have no feasible plan to pay it back.

They were using accounting tricks to keep below the debt ceiling. It always jumps after they raise the ceiling.
