It is, clearly, coming apart.

I think in 2020, if it is Bernie Sanders vs Trump, then Sanders would win. I don't agree with Sanders, but I think this will be the outcome.
I'm pretty dam disappointed with Trump so far, but thats synopsis is ridiculous. People are voting for less government, not far, far more. You can thank the left for that..

I think the Republican Party will eventually split into two parties. It will probably happen within the next 5-10 years.

One party for the sensible, pragmatic, middle of the road moderate Republicans who actually want to govern and get things done. The other for the lunatics that want to eliminate all government spending except for the military, those that believe the Bible should dictate government policy, and bash Muslims, immigrants, and minorities all day.

It can't come soon enough. I'm sick of being lumped in with the repulsive bigoted ignoramuses.

The GOP will insist on another round of "PURITY" tests.

Why?

Simply they won.

Until this purity test formula results in a big loss, there will be no big split.

However, if it is anybody else vs Trump, hard to say. Far left is in a constant state of psychotic rage, I don't think they will win.

I voted

You can't really get any further left currently than Bernie Sanders. He and Trump preach many of the same things - Sanders just has a different and kinder version of populism.

Both parties are reacting and cooperation has halted.

The democrat party has been hijacked by socialists as seen in 'the ends justify the means' behavior of that party. the democrats as we knew them could be their own party. Just need to socialists who coopted the democrats reputation to break away.
We saw democrats putting their finger on the scale to maintain HRC over Bernie. The corruption of ethical behavior, hate and fear mongering, are an earmark that continues today. That behavior should be less attractive to voters as the party stands. The democrat party is now made of of a minority of legacy democrats, socialists and outright criminals. Additioanlly they own their own propaganda machine which we have only seen in banana republics, communist countries and terrorist states.

The repubs have shown themselves to be collectively inept. Signs were there before.

Repub party is not as split as the dem party. Sure there are small factions as would be typical. The great divide is swamp creatures far more than it is political factions as with the dems, which are also well populated with swamp creatures.

Repubs had seven years to develop a single plan to rid the country of obama care and provide a replacement. when we hear mconnel say that people don't understand the process, our collective hair starts on fire.

Mconnel is one of the entrenched swamp creatures. Mconnel's words can be used as evidence of the existence of a political class while pelosi's words that 'we have to pass it to find out what is in it' can only come from a socialist/communist where the government controls the people.

Trump is as close to being rescued as we will ever come.

Exactly. I think a small number of Sanders primary voters might have actually voted for Trump. Maybe Hillary would’ve won if they hadn’t, who knows.

Both parties are in complete disarray.

You may be on to something here.

Now if only the sensible, pragmatic, middle of the road, moderate Republicans would call out the lies.

Be a good start.

Hard to say.

I will never vote for Bernie, but Bernie vs Trump

I think Bernie would win because he is not the establishment. If Trump won in 2016, Bernie has equal chance. But I doubt the Democratic party would give him a chance

This will be my prediction.

lol yeah I remember you said you'd never vote for Sanders because he couldn't win. Hillary would win, that is what you said. lol

I think one of the biggest mistake your side made is that you picked Hillary. If you picked Bernie Sanders (crazy as he is), you might have a chance.

"The Republican party will not break apart, but it will be heavily factionalized - perhaps for years"

This. GWB broke the old Republican coalition a decade ago. There was never a reconciliation, opposition to Obama simply papered over the differences.
