New York magazine is a liberal rag but when Steve Bannon gave his speech in Orange County the other day, he recommended this article, saying writer Andrew Sullivan got it right. You Dems should also read the comments afterward to see what your 'friends' are thinking.

I hope the Dims don't read this and remain clueless....Republicans have gained power in 4 consecutive election cycles and I would like the trend to continue.

Immigration is going to destroy the democrat party much more directly than that. We all know that illegal immigrants DO vote in large numbers--that is the ONLY reason that libs oppose reasonable voter ID laws. Those on the left who pretend that it is not so know it better than anyone.

Now that structural forces and Donald Trump have illegal imigration down far below attrition level, with more leaving than coming, hundreds of thousands of illegal votes are going to dry up in key swing counties, and even some that looked solidly democrat are going to turn.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin, Pennslyvania, and Michigan are not coming back to the Dems any time soon, because no, white people did not like being called racist for all of those years when dems were courting illegal votes.

It is pretty much game over for the Dems. Minority support for the GOP has actually been creeping up, and Trump did better with them than McCain or Romney. The Red Tide elections could not have happened without support from Hispanics and Asians in key disctricts. The reason that the demographic advantage that Dems have been predicting for 25 years has not materialized is simple: Hispanics and mixed race Americans often consider themselves white and vote accordingly. There is no emergent liberal majority based on racial tides, and evidence is actually largely the other way.

Swallow it down, dems. You called good Americans racist for wanting their existing laws enforced, and now you will have a good 20 years in the wilderness before things re-align. Sure, there will be ebbs and flows, but you have no chance of winning the Senate next time out, and Trump, despite your hopes, is virtually a lock to win the midwest in 2020. You've only yourselves to blame.

GOP will add several Senate seats in 2018, and a few in 2020. Dems are working hard for the GOP.

Sanders supported enforcing the borders. He would have beat Trump. This is the lesson the (D)'s refuse to learn.

I can agree with most of Sullivan's views. To all the conservative posters praising the article, you fail to see the irony that it also shows all the lies conservatives have told about Obama and immigration. Obama was not for open borders and vigorously enforced the law.

Quote:
He ramped up enforcement on the border and deportations … only to get nothing from the GOP in return. The right dismissed his toughness, while the left resented it. But it’s also true that Obama never truly bragged about his tough-on-illegal-immigrants stance, or campaigned on it, or emphasized it, when addressing the country as a whole. He couldn’t bring himself to boast about deportations, which is to his credit.
The illiterate right for years engaged in a series of lies on Obama and his immigration policy. But that is par for the course for the right because it is only with propagating misinformation that they win elections.

As far as Sullivan's criticism of free speech, he is correct, but as he points out, it is both a left and right problem.

Keep up the great job, you still have not learned.

Obama mostly followed in the steps of Bush. That is the irony both ways.

This is a right and left problem.
