Plenty of evidence in his own words to indicate he felt black people were inferior to white.
I was at the Chicago History Museum a year ago and they almost an entire floor dedicated to Lincoln, but none of his commentary on race. Made me chuckle out loud what a whitewashing has been done over his legacy.
(question for those who support the recent statue removals, of course)
would you support removing the Lincoln memorial? Removing the "Land of Lincoln" slogan from Illinois?
Why, did you find some super secret info in the JFK files, or did Alex Jones report it? Or, are going to pull up the fact that Lincoln would have let slavery continue in the south if it would avoid a civil war?
Or is it just another RWNJ $hit stir/click bait false controversy thread?
We cannot judge people from the past, 200, 100 or even 50 years ago by our standards of today. It's clear from the historical record that Lincoln did not consider blacks to be the equal to white people and he advocated shipping former slaves back to Africa.
Is it true that blacks are inferior? Of course not, and we know that today, however in the 19th century, that wasn't widely known or believed. We cannot judge historical figures by today's standards and we shouldn't be tearing down statues or defacing these great men in such a way.
Lincoln would have shared many of the alt rights views, yet he is a hero and the alt right are racists. You have a problem with consistency.
Alt Right is trying to tear this country in two, Lincoln kept it together.
Like I said, Lincoln for all his faults redeemed himself.
If Trump or David Duke find the cure for cancer and share it without charge, I'd support a statue in their honor. I'd wear a MAGA hat if they did that.
