How much consumed food is imported? | wivb.com

https://www.ers.usda.gov/data-produc...?chartId=58362
First off from your own cite 83% of the food consumed in the US is locally grown. So worst case 17% is imported. And much of that is stuff like fish where we are a weak producer. And two of our big customers for agricultural products are Canada and Mexico.

And we maintain a positive balance of trade on agricultural products.

Who cares? The bulk of our grain and corn is sold to China and Russia.

When I am looking at a new vehicle to buy, I look at where it’s built. I give vehicles assembled in Mexico a pass ever since I had problems with a Dodge diesel that was manufactured in Durango.

No not rural. But low population states. His margin in the electoral college is very close to the margin of the low population states. He wins off the 25% of the states with less than 10% of the population.

But to a large extent it is the rural and other poor who are getting it from this administration. Where are the people he is going to bounce from Medicaid?

What Mexico is really mad about is the loss of of the one sided nature of Bill Clinton's NAFTA that Trump is bringing to an end.
Mexico has to feed its people. Doing business with Trump doesn’t appear worth the trouble plus he’s unstable and untrustworthy. Why should they rely on Trump? That doesn’t help US farmers sell their crops, does it?

I don’t understand why some people keep mentioning “doing business with Venezuela.” Venezuela isn’t producing ANYTHING. Venezuela IMPORTS everything. Mexico already has oil.

Mexico will be doing business with Brasil and Argentina in Latin America AND with China. I think Mexico was buying over 6 BILLION dollars in grain from the US. Who is going to pick up that kind of volume?

I don’t know what wanting to get into the US has to do with buying grain from Argentina. There are quite a few super rich people in those countries and they buy from the US.

This happens when you insult your customers. Trump is too flaky to do business with. He breaks agreements, throws fits, and is constantly haranguing everybody. It’s a PITA. How is the US going to be taken seriously?

I can’t blame Mexico wanting to be treated with some respect. It appears that now Brazil and Argentina are more stable than the US. Good grief! What we’ve come down to!

Not.

That happens to you for buying a Dodge in the first place.

Good question.

Wages aren’t going up in the US either.

the short termism of Trump is simply stunning. He runs around throwing bombs like an internet troll, and does not give a damn what damage he is doing long term. It really is a shame he fell assbackwards into Obama'a excellent economy.
Mexico MUST be "dirt poor"; otherwise MOST Mexican citizens would've gone back home a while back.
