"Deadly airborne plague in Madagascar is now at 'crisis' point and the 'worst outbreak in 50 years' as cases rocket by almost 40% in just 5 DAYS and could hit a further 20,000 in weeks. The World Health Organization now states there are 1,801 suspected cases. This is significantly higher than the 1,309 the agency reported last Thursday. Professor Robin May, an infectious diseases expert at Birmingham University, told MailOnline that the outbreak is 'concerning definitely'. Analysis of figures by MailOnline show the epidemic could strike a further 20,000 people in just a matter of weeks, if current trends continue . The 'unprecedented' outbreak has prompted warnings in 9 nearby countries."

Deadly airborne plague cases rocket by almost 40% | Daily Mail Online
Those are just the sub-headlines in an article about "airborne pneumonic plague and means it is spread through coughing, sneezing or spitting. It is different to the traditional bubonic form that strikes the country each year."

My question to you (no right or wrong answers, just opinion) do you think, when an airborne plague hits a country, all travel by residents of that country should be stopped? If no, why not? If yes, who should make that decision? The airlines/trains/boats - transportation industry whether to go into that country? The heads of state of the receiving countries? The World Health Organization? The "Centers of Disease Control" type office in each country? The country that has the plague? The problem of an airborne disease has to be worse in large cities because of close contact with large numbers of people. If you live in a city of over 200,000 people should you be more worried?

If you think travel should be stopped to and from these plagued countries, is your opinion of who should best make the call based on who can be decisive the fastest? For example, in the US it would take Congress much longer to reach a decision than the President and in the case of the UN, it might take even longer than both Congress and The President. Also, the travel industry may be weighing monetary issues in addition to health factors.

You know that countries won't do any bans. It's not politically correct.

But for the health of the world, PC needs to be put on the side and the country quarantined until they get it under control.
No one in, no one out. And if you go in then you stay there until it's over.

We saw what happened with the Ebola outbreak. And that was with so called restrictions.

yes. they have a very serious situation over there. surprising there's very little in the news about it.

fun fact: much of the disease spread is attributed to their weird ritual of digging up dead relatives and dancing with them
RELATIVES dancing with the corpses of their loved ones are helping to spread the plague, officials have warned.

Madagascans have been told to stop the traditional practice of Famadihana, which sees locals dig up deceased relatives and dance with them before they are reburied, The Sun reports.

It is feared the ceremony has helped spread an outbreak of pneumonic plague that has left more than 120 dead on the African island.

One aspect of most air borne diseases is a fever comes quickly. Checking for a fever before allowing people inside an airport building let alone on a flight is an acceptable security measure.

Airlines would need to coordinate rebooking seats for about a week later. If the fever is gone the person can fly.

Airline staff have to be included. Especially airline staff since they are one of most likely sources as was proven with the spread of HIV.

Yes there should be a ban. Democrats will of course oppose it - again. They don't care about Americans, they'd rather appease their SJW base and let infected people into the US than protect Americans, just like they did in 2014 when Obama wanted to ban travel from countries infected with Ebola.

I am fine with it so long as Saudi Arabia is included, along with Pakistan.
