The AR, as in AR-15, stands for: Armalite Rifle. Not necessarily assault rifles.
That is Correct AR-15-platform rifles are among the most popular firearms being sold. They are today's modern sporting rifle. The AR in “AR-15” rifle stands for ArmaLite rifle, after the company that developed it in the 1950s. “AR” does NOT stand for “assault rifle” or “automatic rifle.”
Reportedly about 5% of the US population own some sort of semi- automatic firearm. That's about 1.5% of the total population. It's probably less given some own more than one.
That is what these people don't understand. In basic function, the AR 15 is no different than the semi-auto 22 Marlin or J C Higgins that Sears sold for years and was delivered by mail. I started shooting one when I was about 6 years old.
This is yet another example of PURE PROJECTION on the part of Liberal/Progressives. They can't trust themselves with a firearm, so want to ban everyone else from having them. So, the law abiding will not have them, but the criminals will. Nice.
