stupid, stupid, stupid.
It's not like they would stick out at all in China.

I lived and worked in Shanghai, very cool city if you don't try to cheat the Chinese.

It's one thing to get caught "liberating" a genuine Louis Vuitton article. It's quite another to get picked up by the Chinese cops for shoplifting complete fakes such as might be found in a retail shop in China.
It doesn't make any difference. Stealing is stealing whatever country you do it in. O.J. thought he could steal his memorabilia back and did prison time. There are no circumstances that make shoplifting permissible.

You are thinking that the State of California will take on China. You are overestimating the role that athletes play and how easily they are kicked to the curb, especially in the one year and done era of the top basketball players.

no you missed the point. UCLA isnt going to end chinese student enrolement over this. even if the players get teh maximum sentence, chinese students are still going to go to UCLA regardless. what will happen though is the players are going to pay for this for some time, including very possibly being dropped from the team.

the point here is the school is going to recognize that china is doing nothing wrong, the players did the wrong thing.

You seem to be confused as well. I'm saying that CHINA will be the one to not want a rift, NOT UCLA.

China does not want to upset the University of California, Los Angeles. These three thieves are not worth anything to them and they'd be happier to empty that store into their duffel bags than have any problems with UCLA.

No the school won't. Anything more than small fine and a slap on the wrist is wrong.

under california law that is true, but we are talking about china law, not US law. if the chinese judiciary feel the violation is egregious enough, or if the players dont show due respect to the chinese judiciary and the chinese justice system, then the chinee just might throw the book at them, and i will help. these three idiots are ambassadors for our country, and they should have comported themselves in a proper manner.

stupid, stupid, stupid.
I have been a UCLA basketball fan since the Wooden days. The UCLA coach Alford should have done a better job keeping track of his players. And obviously they should not have done something so stupid.

China is known for very little crime. Perhaps we need to do this. 10 years in prison for shoplifting. My guess shoplifting arrests would go way down with this sort of penalty.

Regarding the UCLA players. My guess is they will be released and not charged.

My only thought here is why is the NCAA having games in China? I know 1 billion people. But is this really necessary?

Amazing how I can tell who were the chumps that couldn’t make any sports team in their youth and found themselves relegated to hanging out with the unpopular kids.

“Rot in a Chinese prison.” Over shoplifting. Really?

Would you be saying this if it were the UCLA Golf Team or the Swim Team?
Any American that is stupid enough to go to a FOREIGN country and commit a crime deserves whatever the punishment is in that country.

Watch an episode or two of Locked Up Abroad...lol

Anyone that is in college should be intelligent enough to know your "rights" as an American end when you travel to another country.
