I would like to challenge the "equal opportunity" motif. Liberals believe it's not "socially just" for wealthy areas to have better funded and overall better quality schools than poorer areas. But, don't wealthy areas pay more in taxes? Why is unfair to get what you pay for? Heck, if I am able to afford to live in whatever neighborhood Obama lives in, you bet I'm going to demand good schools! Do liberals really believe that Bill Gates should be forced to send his kids to crappy schools just so things can be "more equal"? Or if we try to make every school the same, what will be the incentive for any school to be decent? Won't rich people just flock to private schools or homeschooling? Would the next step be to make homeschooling illegal so no one has an "unfair aadvantag"? Just wondering how far we should take this equality stuff. It seems like the book Animal Farm.

Forced equality is mediocrity and misery and a recipe for extinction. Freedom and individuality leads to evolution.

Forced equality is the arbitrary application of evil and aggression upon some for the benefit of others to reach a state of existence that can only arise with widespread oppression.

If you want to have two separate societies then continue with the philosophy that the rush deserve better. Let poor districts fund themselves, that should work out well.

What is it with this concern for the rich, are they in danger.

Wrong question. Right question: Why shouldn’t poor people have better school districts? After all, if you’re rich you can afford to be stupid.

Very philosophical but we are speaking to school districts, are you proposing everyone for themselves. Who exactly is the oppressed?

Sadly, the vast majority of "the poor" will remain poor no matter how much we throw at teacher's unions. When single parent families embrace violence, refuse to even try to work, when students refuse to study and attack those few who do want to make something of themselves, they will remain losers. Let the people that contribute the most see something back for their investment, and put the educational focus on those that are willing to attend school and apply themselves.

So, your philosophy is that the rich don't deserve to live in bigger houses? Don't deserve to drive nicer cars? Don't deserve to take more luxurious vacations? Don't deserve more attractive romantic partners? Don't deserve more scenic views from their living room window?

What incentive is there to make money, then?

ALL school districts should be good. I had a great school system because my parents sacrificed. Most people in the town were filthy rich. But the poor and the middle class need education too. I guess I just give up with people who are so self righteous and think that only the rich should get necessary things like education, housing, food, health care.

Actually, the rich need the good schools less than anyone else because they can usually buy their way into college. However, it's useless talking to people who think money entitles them to everything.

Actually liberals nowadays no longer believe that thanks to the teachers unions propagating the line that giving poor kids more educational opportunities via school choice is destructive and a waste, they now believe poor kids should be condemned to crappy and violent schools just so unionized teachers won't lose thier jobs.
