Back in early days in PA it was bigotry and segregation...I learned what parents taught me. Thank goodness I've moved to CA 50 yrs now and talk about Diversity and Open Minds....born and raised with a closed mind and thankfully it's quite open.
Diversity doesn't only apply to ethnicity. Sixty years ago, women held just six percent of management positions in business. (We're up to a whopping 24 percent now. Still a long way to go.)
How's that for your mythical "diversity is phony and unnecessary" meme? And it had nothing to do with "working hard," it had to do with being blocked from being allowed to compete at all. Just as just about everyone who wasn't a white male was in your rosy 50-60 years ago mythical world.
Stick to topics that you know something about. You're just embarrassing yourself here.
This has always been a diverse planet. Why there is now a push to make sure that all western societies(and only western societies) reflect the diversity of the planet as a whole is a mystery, unless it is driven by pernicious motives.
Because we chose to diversify our countries- North America stopped being homogenous the second the first Europeans arrived. We further diversified when the first slave ships arrived from Africa... and then when the Chinese arrived to provide labor during the Gold Rush and on the railways... etc etc etc.
Diversity in the United States isn't a new notion, although the idea of equality among races, sadly is fairly new (within the last half century).
Well, I do know that many of the incredibly hard-working farm guys put their tools down for a few years, when their own families could least afford it. They marched off thousands of miles to help free the slaves. Many did not return.
The ones who did return just got back to work.
You know that persecution of African Americans didn't end with the Civil War, right?
You still didn't respond to my statement regarding your location. Exactly how/why do you consider Caribou, ME to be diverse? I'm really curious to know...

1776-1960 90% white
Diversity is a conditioned way to describe self inflicted white genocide.
In my area, there has ALWAYS been lots "Diversity". But they didn't care about that, back in the old days. It was a meaningless term to them. Even just fifty-sixty years ago.
All that DID matter was working hard and making money, whatever your ethnic background (and church, for most of them). When that's all you're focused on, then people get along great. And everybody prospers, oddly enogh.
Today, this phony push for "Diversity" has pushed all of that aside.
In the areas where Jim Crow was the law of the land it wasn't based at all on how hard one worked. The signs didn't tell lazy people to go to the back of the bus or not to use the "wrong" water fountain. They told "colored" people to do so...who often had the hardest jobs that whites didn't want to do.
High schools in certain regiond didn't avoid conducting school sponsored proms until within the past decade because of a deep seated fear that a lazy boy or one who couldn't get along with people would ask a white girl and thereby cause a major controversy in the community.
People were too busy working hard and making money for your kind of nonsense.
They had no idea what you are talking about.
Check your history. Life was about a lot more than making money. And, sadly, people did exert a great deal of thought and effort into keeping other groups in "their place". They devised ingenious schemes for doing so. Our bloodiest war was fought mainly over that issue. And much of that effort to make money that you refer to was designed to keep other down...out of professions, trades, etc so that they could make more money.
The purpose of slavery was to make money.
What makes an area a ghetto? Is it the high crime, lack of maintenance and dysfunctional behavior that make it that way or is it oppression from White people? And if White people made it that way then why do poor White neighborhoods also have blight and dilapidation? Are they also oppressed by White people?
Yes, whites are often exploited by other whites. Was that even a question?
Maine has massive welfare and other problems also - yeah, White People. More specific, while people who have been in the country a while. The Ukranians moving in are hard and good workers.
