Just think how this would clean up and calm down the election cycle. No crap throwing as the person would be "Certified Clean". No more October surprises, no more skanky commercials impugning a candidate's character etc, etc, etc.
We'd all be listening only to the issues and ideas, imagine that!
I would vote for that. We need to clean house and keep it clean. This isn't a Republicans vs Democrats issue so I don't get all the Trump supports outrage at this idea. Could it be maybe deep down they know if this dea is put in place, Trump and his corrupt minions would be kicked out of the WH along with most of the Repugs in Congress?

As has been shown in the latest election cycle parties can't screen better when they're bought and paid for by one candidate right?

That'll never happen.

Any punishments would be handed out by a court after criminal charges are filed no matter how long ago the "crimes" were committed. They'd not allowed to run because of old issues found.
I think a lengthy detailed background check needs to be done on every person that throws their name in for Congress or the presidency. Is that done already? I have no idea.

Also, term limits on Congress! I don't want to see Conyer's son carry on the same work as his father. Term limits could help with stop nepotism and also foster new ideas.

Both parties would've lost many of their candidates the last election cycle.

you're funny. The Dems are dirtier than a hog in a mud puddle. If Trump is so corrupt Mueller sucks at his job. He should have been able to come up with charges by now if that were the case. So far he's only gotten low level garden variety procedure charges. Nothing significant at all.

I think we need to have voters pass an IQ test before they are allowed to vote. As we saw in this last election, a lot of very unqualified people were able to cast their ballot, and look what we ended with.

so in other words you advocate spending untold billions of dollars to investigate every candidate for public office despite the fact that when they file their papers they have not been accused of any crimes?

and even if this special prosecutor gave the candidate a clean bill of health, you can bet that the opposition would still dig up dirt on the candidate, so we would still be inundated by the garbage we had to endure over the past few years.

sorry but your idea is an extremely bad one on many levels.

When the whole point is to get a guy in office who will do the bidding of that party's special interest$, who is going to do the vetting?
Voting is an illusion.

Don't waste time, and money on "investigations", let the voters sort it out.

Then WHY is pre-employment drug testing allowed with NO evidence of any crime being committed?

Remove money from the equation and we are good. Much easier said than done. I saw a segment on 60 Minutes where it showed representatives are on the phone almost all day soliciting for money. That is what our Congress does all day when they aren't in session.

Make lobbyist illegal.
