No, conservatives have simply integrated racism and religious bigotry into their party platform, which is a key difference between progressives and conservatives. Racists exist on all sides, but the vastly less common "left-wing" racists have no real political power outside of perhaps a few local towns - certainly nothing on the county, state, or national level as seen with right-wing racists.
As for the event in question, this looks far more like flat-out ignorance than racism, which should surprise exactly no one - barring people with an agenda to somehow try to "prove" that "leftist are the real racists" - since ignorance is far more common than racism.
That being said, given how stupid Trump is, he'd probably believe the random article anyway.
