It wasn't about politics. It's about ratings. How many clicks do you suppose people ranting on the internet will get them? This is a long tried and true tactic with sports talk.
ESPN is targeting that huge group of people who are both diehard sports fans and lovers of all things liberal and PC. This is sure to be a winning strategy for them.
