Given the outcry over the GOP tax bill, wouldn’t it make sense for the Democrats, instead of simply caterwauling, to begin unified campaigning immediately to roll back the Trump corporate tax cut, restore the middle-class cuts to permanent status, reinstate the student loan deduction, the state and local tax deductions, the obamacare individual mandate, and the other aspects of the GOP plan which seem to be so unattractive?
Who knows? Arguing for substantive actions to address actual (as opposed to perceived) unfairness in government policies might catch on as a winning political strategy...
Um, you do realize that the Republicans control the entire national level government, right? The Democrats can't "do" anything at this point. I guess not...
While the Democratic party really does need to get back to focusing on the working class, the consequences of Trump's failures are on him and the Republican party.

Hence my use of the word “campaign”, since an election eleven months from now offers the opportunity to change the crucial legislative component of our government. Um, you do know how that works, right?

The only consequences currently detectable are a roaring stock and real estate market and a lot of angry progressives. The Democrats are going to need a meaningful platform with specific attack points to overcome this...

Yep, it would be a reasonable strategy. But I think what you're missing is that Democrats don't WANT to win.
Because if they wanted to win... all they would have to do is make marijuana legalization part of their party platform. And stop telling the largest voting bloc in the country (working class white people) that they're the privileged root of all evil.
But Democrats don't do that. I can only conclude that they don't WANT to win.*
*But seriously. They don't want to win because they're just the 'other' side of our Federal government that's owned lock stock and barrel by the 1%. Maybe the less cynical half... but just the same they're only TRULY concerned about the interests of the 1%

Well...not so much.
Republicans do not vote in mindless lockstep like Democrats.
It is hard to get all the Republicans to agree.
Democrats will vote for anything their leadership wants them to.

you are misunderstanding the situation, but it is an easy one to get wrong..
the USA has a silly two party system this means that through our history there will be times when one party is really a coalition of various parties while another might be a large single party or two. Or not...
you will often hear political folk talking about "tents" and that is what they mean. Right now the Dems (ie this decade or two) are almost a single party, not really but close. The Rs are a much more diverse group they are made up of bannon types, establishment , some old racists , religious folk.
Rs took a long term two pronged approach around 1985. You can look that up and learn about it, it was pretty impressive and has worked really well for them. But in the last 10 years it has broken into 3 4 major groups . libertarians have taken a corner of the party too..
so when you say dems vote in lockstep like it is bad, maybe you are just telling posters like me you don't actually understand the political landscape at all. there is nothing "mindless" about voting against two major bills that you hate at every level? kind of like the zero number of Rs that voted for ACA.....
but that is cool, we all learn here and elsewhere...
Democrats would rather fight for the rights of illegals .
While Republicans only fight for the 1%.
