Just an idea. These tax cuts for corporations should keep prices from rising, such as the utility corporations. Here in NC Duke is asking for a 18% increase in rates. With this tax cut why would they need that raise?

They'll buy up the competition with more money in their pocket, and that means less consumer choice and higher prices.

So no reason to raise rates.

Any justification why they should still raise rates? Anyone.

lol You don't know what you're talking about. The better the profit percentage the more people are attracted to starting that type of business. More competition will happen when taxes go down.

Duke also has a coal ash problem, here in Rowan County there are a bout 80 homes which need a new water source. Their wells have been polluted from coal ash pond runoff.

With the tax cut Duke or any utility should not be granted a increase.

Thought so I remember something on NPR about it and now that you've mentioned it I remember the ash issues as well. Duke as NO right to an increase even more so because of the problems they are having.

It depends on how much they are willing to spend lobbying. Nothing changes that.

Utility companies are notorious for finding ways to get more of the customers money.

They will never stop trying.

A class-action lawsuit was filed against Duke Energy Florida and Florida Power & Light Co. alleging the monopoly electricity providers force millions of Florida customers to pay unlawful charges in connection with their electricity rates to fund the companies' nuclear power plant projects, some of which have been abandoned.
