once again i suggest you and others go talk to congress, and help them, democrats and republicans, to work for a health insurance law that will help the people you want to help without resorting to forced mandates, and other gimmicks to force people to buy things they dont want. for instance forcing elderly people to buy prenatal health care is rubbish.

but we have had this discussion before.

The Obamacare Mandate Is a Tax, So the Senate Bill Is Correct

“Using a tax bill to abolish the individual mandate amounts to a backdoor way of sabotaging Obamacare,” writes John Cassidy.

“Republicans, and Donald Trump, have counted on that (as well as your limited outrage bandwidth) in slipping an Affordable Care Act mandate repeal inside their insidious tax bill,” writes Bridget Read.

All this howling is due to how the GOP-controlled Senate used a tax bill to repeal a health bill. The implication is that this is something shady and duplicitous, like an exercise in false pretense. Actually, there is absolutely nothing shady about the repeal of the Obamacare mandate. There is no back door here. No bait and switch. Obamacare’s much-despised individual mandate is, in fact, a tax. It is properly dealt with in a tax bill.

National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius
"in slipping an Affordable Care Act mandate repeal"

It was NOT "SLIPPED IN"

it was talked about for long time.

Anyone who follows these things is not surprised. it made it through.

I've never been a fan of the Mandate, having people buy something they don't want. It's not like Military Draft. That being said, the insurance industry told us they needed this to make Obamacare work. I still believe them. Time will soon tell.
I was not a fan of the Mandate either. And blame the GOP all you want, but it's a shame that healthy people don't have the conscience or integrity to sign up for health insurance in order to pay for the unhealthy among us. The GOP is a selfish party, but so are our young and healthy people too. But as long as they have their latest smartphones and other gadgets, they they are happy and have no problems sleeping at night.

Oh, so the Democratic party is not selfish?

Two points:

1 UHC and single payer are not the same thing.

I don't believe that for a minute. Without a mandate, insurance companies will be more likely to compete. If insurance is mandatory, then people would have to purchase it regardless of the price. Now that it's optional that means that insurance companies have to make their product more attractive, otherwise they won't earn business. We need a true market, not a rigged system that guarantees profits for insurance companies.

There were people who made just above the income limit and didn't qualify for a subsidy. Those people either had to pay a very expensive monthly premium, or had to go without insurance because they couldn't afford it. Worse, if they couldn't afford the premiums, they had to pay a fine. It was a poorly written bill that hurt many people. Did you think these people should support it? I doubt you would have if you lost insurance and was fined because it was so expensive.

Well lets just say that the Democrats did such a p*ss poor job in the first place that it was hurting too many people and it had to be done.

Obamacare has killed so many full time jobs. It's amazing how young liberals working in this new gig economy have no idea their super hero Obama has caused so much damage to their career and income inequality. Occupy wall street was a statement and they still blindly support Obama because of MSM brainwashing.
