Puerto Rico is undergoing a transformation. The poor and middle earners are leaving for Florida and the fat cats (with new money from the tax cuts now) are moving in. You will see all manner of new and glitzy development as PR becomes a top playground for the wealthy. The people remaining will live as paupers inland and work in the hotels, golf courses and seaside resorts.
Sounds good if they invest and bring in money and jobs to the area. If they build this will put many people to work. Bringing better roads ,infrastructure and much money into the area.

How is it benefiting a family to have their home foreclosed on, and for them to lose their home?
PR was a disaster waiting to happen and the hurricane only brought its plight to the media.
Corruption was running amuck there in both the government and private sector.
Federal Funds were pocketed by government officials who were later indicted.
20% of meth in the US comes (or came) from PR.
Their underground cash economy was about 1/3 of their entire economy.
So don't feel so sorry for PR. It's more like the chickens have come home to roost there.
The Obama administration seemingly dealt Puerto Rico a setback in its fight for financial independence last week when it argued in a brief for a separate case that the island is a territory that lacks virtually any standing as a sovereign entity — and will continue to do so unless it achieves statehood or independence.
Prior to the bankruptcy provision House Democrats tried to get into the omnibus bill, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) was working closely with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) on a similar bill granting Puerto Rico powers to declare Chapter 9 bankruptcy on some of its debts and give towns and public corporations bankruptcy powers as well.

The people of P.R. are undergoing suffering most of us will never know but rather than try and come up with solutions, we fall back on our stupid partisan bickering.
It's really sad.
I don't agree with you very often, but I'm with you 100% on this.

Nothing new . We here in Florida had massive amounts of foreclosures... if they lost their jobs, and could not sell their home and could not pay for it.. they can't keep the house. It is the law . Many people over bought , didn't expect to see their homes devalued, or lose their jobs.. it happened here in many states.
Many here have started over. Many here bought toys, boats and lived high when they has a building boom that they thought would never end. Some bought homes for $750,000 thinking their properties would never lose value. They did and sold for rock bottom prices as REO's, bought from the banks that foreclosed. The banks lost big money.
