Pres. Trump said he would like to see the return of earmarks. Earmarks as you may recall were congressional funds that went to a district without bidding and were used as examples of government waste and corruption.

Earmarks are the antithesis of "draining the swamp".

Trump wants them returned.

Do you agree with Trump?

I didn't think they had left, three were plenty of presents in the tax reform bill.

Earmarks are draining the swamp. It doesn't increase the budget and it gets money into the hands of the the states who spend that money more efficiently than the Federal government. We the people in the the state that gets the earmarks can hold those in charge of that earmark responsible. More money should be earmarked. Let the states have more of their money back.

Trump wants them because it allows him to negotiate the way he has done for decades.

I HATE earmarks and do not want them back.

They are essentially extortion that leads to greater debt and unfairly appropriates tax dollars.

Since it does not increase the budget it cannot lead to greater debt.
How is it extortion to get your constituents money back?

As long as they are divided appropriately* among the states, I have no problem with it.

* In proportion to population, revenue collected, etc.

Earmarks? Oh yeah, like we don’t have enough corruption in DC.

What an IDIOT.

That's not their purpose, and you know it.

Their purpose is TO BUY A VOTE. Regardless of what the folks back home want.

Of course Trump likes them. Buying and selling is his thing.

And yes, Trump didn't start the practice.
