I have the same insurance Congress gets. Cost me $500 a month for health insurance plus another $300 a month for Medicare premiums. Congress has the same health insurance every other federal employee has.
Wow, no wonder republicans hate unions. They pay for our health insurance 100 percent. We pay nothing out of pocket except for a $10 co pay. But I don't think you get the same health insurance they get.
We need to ration health care. Before Obamacare, we rationed by whether you had a job. Now we ration by whether you have a chronic condition. In other words, a lot of the people in the individual market have chronic conditions and are willing to pay buku bucks for treatment. Before many of them were locked out of health insurance. Marginal people in the individual market go without health insurance and pay the penalty.
I think the former system made more sense. A small portion of health outcomes is due to medical treatments. Most is due to diet and exercise. A lot of medical treatments are unnecessary and ineffective. We shouldn't be incentivizing spending on expensive treatments for the chronically ill. Frankly a lot of the chronically ill are hopeless cases and healthcare spending on them is a lost cause. Our healthcare system would work better if we penalized users for being obese and sedentary more.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you. Yes, a number of the people are sick but you would also kick off cancer patients that had to get new plans because cancer is now a pre-existing condition when they changed jobs. How is that fair? Obamacare was tanked by Republicans, we need single-payer. PERIOD.
I would like argue too that part off the problem with healthcare is that we don't seek treatment until we have issues. We don't go to the doctors for check-ups after we are grown unless we have medical issues. Some people actually pride themselves on never going to the doctor. Then one day a health issue comes up and they have to start a relationship with a doctor or several that could have been treated with preventative healthcare maintence. Single-payer healthcare would help with this.
Just to be clear, IMO, the middle class has been royally you-know-what. The Government took a healthcare system that was good and basically rigged it against the middle class by seeming to think that opening up access (basically providing a piece of useless paper saying that you have coverage) was going to solve our issues.
Instead of improving on what we had, we replaced it with a system that is not nearly as good because no one can afford care under these ridiculous high deductible/high out-of-pocket maximums plans. Even worse, the middle class who can't afford to self-pay, does not have access to quality medical care (including specialists). Wait times and access has gone down hill just like they have in Single Payer systems. And if you need mental health, good luck.
Reimbursements to doctors have plummeted and there was nothing put in place to make sure we had enough new medical providers coming into the system to handle the load.
What ever happened to reducing waste, fraud and abuse? Increasing competition among the drug companies, reducing the overwhelming burden of illegal immigration on our system?
Both parties are guilty. It's just that Democrats knew all along this would happen and welcomed it as they will do anything to destroy the middle class. Instead of improving on our existing system, they destroyed it to bring it down to the lowest common denominator. Now no one gets good care unless your rich.
...and for Single Payer lovers, tell me, what do you do when increased rationing (by the way, we always have had rationing) hits and your procedure is deemed unnecessary? Where do you go to file a grievance? What choices do you have then?
Why people are rioting is beyond me. Healthcare reform was the first step to Government-controlled healthcare where your Kings and Queens make life and death decisions on your behalf. Too much power for my liking.
The greedy, evil health insurers took the upfront money and colluded with the Government to enrich themselves and knew very well they were not going to be able to sustain this model which in no form resembles true insurance.
Next up, health insurers will start folding and the Government will say, "those evil health insurers...I guess there's nothing left for us to do to take over healthcare." They'll all be laughing at how dumb and sheep-like the public is while their wallets get fat off of your tax dollar.

No, not a small portion. Many people have medical/surgical conditions acute and chronic having nothing to do with diet, exercise or lifestyle. Many people of course do suffer from things like running, jumping, skiing and other athletic endeavors that we should discourage?
