Let us not get carried away. No fan of Trump but this is the problem of maintaining an airline fleet of very few examples. And these few airplanes go well past the normal. So let it be and hope the Feds got a reasonable deal.
Why don't they just fix the fridge they've already got? It sounds like it's not even broken, just clogged up with dust and lint making the condensor coils incapable of expelling enough heat when operating in hot/humid environments. Whip out a leaf blower and blow that **** out. If that don't work, get in there with a brush and wet rag.
Much of AFO is custom made. Sounds like the manufacturer is suggesting scrapping the entire refrigeration system, redesigning it from scratch, ripping out the old system and replacing it. All this instead of re-evaluating the existing system and updating it. You would have a hard time convincing me that that someone, somewhere, is not getting a few perks for the more expensive solution.
Can you imagine if they did that when Obama was still in office. The conservatives and far right wings on this forum would be going absolutely nuts. They used to complain about him taking vacation, and taking the whole family with him on foreign trips. This would have really set them off, but it's Trump, so no problem there.
How many lavish vacations did the Obamas go on where Barack, and Michelle flew SEPERATELY with their own entourages? They WASTED money hand over fist, and you are complaining about a meager upgrade to a military asset?

No, I cannot "imagine" that. The liberal media would NEVER had reported such a thing if it happened during the Obama regime. And if they were forced to report it, they would have totally downpalyed it as critical and neccessary to make sure the plane runs safely ect...

No, I'm not complaining at all. I was just highlighting the double standards on how y'all used to act with Obama, vs how y'all acting now with this guy in office. If that was Obama, you would have been one of the main one talking trash about all that taxpayer money.
Are these "chillers" for food, or are they air handling units?
Edit:
Hmmm, Article says "food storage." Sounds very excessive to me. Why hasn't Trump - the guardian of all things that will serve him and cost the public a lot of money - complaining and canceling? Oh, wait. I just answered my own question. Nevermind. (He could have made do with a few new Coleman coolers.)
Edit 2:
BTW, What happened to all that bluster from Trump about canceling the replacement of the two AF1 747's that Trump said would cost too much. Looks like that was just another lie and they are scheduled for production.
Guess I should just be happy my Boeing stock will go up a little based on the decision to go ahead with the extremely heavy modification of a couple of already built - and sitting in storage - air frames that will surely cost more to get out of mothballs and enhance than building from scratch.
