Come on folks, get your priorities in order.

I say this as someone who proudly flies the American flag in front of her house every day and has for many years.
False narrative, as discussion of one subject does not preclude discussion of another. I am not even aware of the shooting you posted about since I have not watched TV, but may choose to comment on it later.

In the mean time I am very disappointed that one of our athletes did such a disrespectful thing that the entire world witnessed.
I suspect he didn't do it on purpose, so that lessons my disgust and I am willing to accept his apology. This of course is not the case with a loser like Ryan Lochte who disgraced himself along with making America look like we have a bunch of ignorant thugs representing our country in the Olympics.

Again false narrative/equivalency.
Many Americans are capable of and do live by moral codes and traditional American values every day of their lives.
While no one is perfect, many strive to be a good as they can be.

I get he was overwhelmed and it was not intentional. So I forgive him.
Agreed. It doesn't look like an intentional act, and given the emotion of the moment I can see how he just missed it. It's not like he's some butthole that does so as an act of whining or protest.

And the whole world is looking at each other in bewilderment thinking, why the hell are those overly sensitive Americans making such a big deal about THAT & not about the fact that one of their own just won the gold?

The difference between us is that I will not tell you to shut up, because freedom of thought and speech are one of the things our flag symbolizes.
So even leftists/liberals/progressives/socialists/communists have the right to utter their warped thoughts about this Constitutional Republic and symbols.
They undoubtedly would suppress those rights if ever they could, thus true patriots must be ever vigilant to speak out against their ideology.

I am far from a snowflake, but do take very seriously our American traditions/symbols. If someone were to disrespect the flag around me, rest assured the leftist loser would feel my wrath.
That hardly equates to hearing something I disagree with and needing a safe space to go pet a bunny like the liberals who are the epitome of the term snowflake.

I thought you were already BB.

Rest assured many of us are capable of "swilling beer", standing for the pledge, and still holding our hands over our hearts at the same time.
As to emulating our American athletes, sure most would like to have the skill/drive to compete in sport and represent our country on such a grand scale. You can respect the accomplishment without respecting aberrant or disrespectful behavior by those same athletes.

For example, I took pride in the William sisters when they represented America and won. That does not mean I respect them or their father personally for having racial chips on their shoulders. I also cannot stand how they dismiss any wrongdoing on their part within minutes of occurrence, by saying "I've moved on".

As I said, I liked the fact White won gold for our country, even though I cannot relate to the type of competition he engaged in. Still I do not diminsh what it took him to be the best at what he does for that one shining moment in history.
That does not however preclude me from being critical of his disrespectful actions while carrying the American flag.

The bottom line is he deserved the criticism, less we give tacit approval with our silence/ambivalence.

I am glad he now sees the mistake he made, and publicly apologized. Further acts of contrition (like doing a PSA about proper flag etiquette) would be welcome, but I do accept his apology.

I'm more concerned that Yahoo Sports wrote drug instead of dragged.

"the flag ended up on the ground being drug through the snow"

Where do you live? I will bring my own flag to disrespect. I would love to feel the wrath of an internet tough guy. What is your net worth? Can a snowflake like you handle prison time?
