i personally don't like the way American athletes through the years have used the flag like a piece of prop or clothing as they mug for the cameras and crowd after getting a medal. I've seen some wear it like a piece of cape.

Though I wouldn't go so far as to get all bent out of shape over this like some people, and he was probably swept up in the moment, I do wish more people would either treat the flat respectfully or not handle it at all (not drag it all over the ground and step over it).

After winning the gold medal in the men’s halfpipe with a dramatic final round score of 97.75, Shaun White did what most Olympic athletes do, he hugged people, he celebrated, he cried and was then handed an American flag. Unfortunately for White and several online tweeters, the flag ended up being the only part of his performance that went negatively.

As White passed the flag to his right hand, the hand that was clutching his snowboard, the flag ended up on the ground being drug through the snow while he walked off the hill.

Ha , I saw that and I was thinking...damn dude, watch what you are doing to the flag...
I get he was overwhelmed and it was not intentional. So I forgive him.

It's more forgivable than people wearing the flag as underwear or socks.

I saw that and cringed. Kept yelling, put it around your neck, put it around your neck. Stepping on it as he dragged it.

The Olympic Committee could make sure that everyone knows how to handle America's colors. But they're too busy worrying about what color the athletes are.

Exactly right. But at the time, when I saw that, I knew that many right-wingers would try to jump all over him about it. Never mind that their cult leader has disrespected everything in our country and disgraces our flag, every time he wears it on a lapel pin.

To that point, maybe the Olympics should be about competitions that are won by being measured, timed or counted, not judged by a panel of "impartial" judges.

If it was an accident I am not sure I see the problem.
