As the interview went into the afternoon, several members of the committee said during breaks that Hicks was declining to answer any questions from her time in the White House and the transition period between the election and the inauguration.
OP is being misleading. She did not plead the 5th. She refused to answer questions about the administration as per executive privilege. Thats very different.

Trump himself has her under his reigns.
From article:
"Democratic Rep. Mike Quigley of Illinois, another member of the panel, said Hicks and her lawyer were "following the orders of the White House not to answer certain questions.""

...Just as they have with every official. This is not new or unexpected. Other administrations have done this as well.
Pay attention to important things like the stuff with Gates-thats new and unexpected. This though? Perfectly predictable.

And not at all unexpected.
I changed title in time, however, most people understand the 5th better. Here, pleading privilege is also protecting her from incrimination.
This said, we are most interested in the period during the election.

This has already been covered, you can't discuss things that happen in the White House, conversations with the president, and his aides are confidential.
The stone wall was still mighty strong in Watergate until John Dean realized the *** was up. Dean might have not been a hero, but when he realized his law career was over, no matter what became of Nixon, and that he was going to go to prison, no matter what happened to Nixon, he made the choice to testify and tell the full truth.
It shaved enough time off his prison sentence that Dean was able to rebuild his life while still a young man. When that inevitability becomes evident to someone now, the wall will crumble. It always breaks, sooner or later.
