Trump says maybe US will have a president for life someday - Business Insider

Chinese President Xi Jinping recently consolidated power. Trump told the gathering: "He's now president for life. President for life. And he's great." Trump added: "I think it's great. Maybe we'll give that a shot someday."

The dictator wannabe strikes again.

Knowing him, it was probably a joke.

Of course it was an attempt at humor.

He should just stop trying -- he's not funny.

Those of us with normal perception, have known that dictator status was Trump's goal, ever since he launched his candidacy. Putin says he regrets that the Soviet Union disbanded. Maybe China, Russia and the U. S. can rule the whole world in a triumvirate of totalitarianism? Can you just imagine the Three Amigos forming a joint secret service, that would stamp out dissent and challenges to power, before they could ever gain a foothold.

It could be far worse than Orwell ever predicted in "1984". Are we going to just complacently lie back and let this happen? What happens in the elections this year, will seal our fate, one way or the other. If the Republicans remain in a majority in congress, they will do nothing to save our democracy.

If he did say it not as a joke this must be called out as bad.

People on the right sharply criticized Obama for saying that he wished he could make laws without congress as a boost to dictators around the world. What is the difference between Obama's and Trump's comments?

You can't blast Obama and then accept Trump's comments.

I agree.

The left hears what Trump says and freaks out. Trump is bad at humor, and the left has a horrible sense of humor.

Bad combination

Many kids go through the just-kidding-phase for awhile. They use it to bail themselves out when they something regrettable. Of course, most of them get over this by the 5th grade...
