So, if the $250K was not the estimate, then why was he bragging about it, and comparing it to the $1 billion estimate?
We know it will cost more than that, so what is he leaving out? Are there really going to be private donors picking up the bulk of the construction costs.
This price tag simply does not make any sense. A new US embassy, will require counter espionage, and ballistic defense and other physical and cyber security measures to be put in place. It's simply not possible for $250k
President Donald Trump said the new U.S. embassy in Jerusalem will cost $250,000 in a meeting at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday.
Trump said his staff told him it would cost $1 billion but that he said they would do it for $250,000.
Yup. Lazy people. In your link, this is a quote from Trump.
..."And we're actually doing that for about $250,000 so check that out, now its temporary but it'll be very nice," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. "
So, no he isn't building a new embassy for 250K. He is doing something temporary and then will build later.
I agree with President Trump, very good idea to do something temporary until the big one is built.
Good to see the landmark there as soon as possible.
Why not just stop building embassies, sell the ones in existence back to the citizens of those countries, and give the money back to its rightful owners--the American taxpayer?
What is the point of comparing the price a temporary apartment to the $1 billion price tag of the actual embassy?
You are making it sound like he is building the new embassy for 250K and that just isn't the case. It is a temporary situation until they end up spending the 1 Billion on the actual permanent embassy. By setting up the temp embassy, he can appoint staff much sooner than if we were to wait for the new one to be built. I don't like Trump for a lot of reasons, but I like the idea of using an existing building. This way the new build can be tabled for a while until it can be factored into a budget and more research done.
What is the point of comparing the price a temporary apartment to the $1 billion price tag of the actual embassy?
Just to make conversation, nothing wrong with that.
And its relevant because it shows there will be an embassy in Jerusalem immediately, hence the wisdom of the temporary embassy.
