When the FBI investigates Trump and cronies for Russia connections, the far-right screams and moans about how unfair it is.
When the same organization does the same thing to Hillary, the far-right screams about how wonderful it all is and how Trump has "finally made the FBI honest" or some crap.
To be honest, I'd be shocked if both camps weren't being influenced by foreign powers on some level. I suspect Trump was more heavily influenced based on the evidence so far and his stance on issues, but let's face it - the leadership in both parties is corrupt and needs to go.
Honestly, the best thing that could happen for this nation politically is a clean sweep of the top-level crooks in both parties, with their crimes being well-detailed to the public so we know what happened. Maybe then we can get back to saner candidates on both sides who might actually care about the people vs. crooks like Hillary and even bigger, crazier crooks like Trump

The worst part of this is that if ever catch everyone involved - which would honestly probably involve a few people from Hillary's side and A LOT of people on Trump's - they'll still pretend team Trump is completely innocent.
I just don't get why the far-right has so much of their identity wrapped up in Trump specifically. None of them would have trusted him with their money, house, or wife a few years ago, but now he's suddenly a hero, and yet still the same sleazebag. It makes no sense.
To use a sports analog, you can be a huge fan of a team but you don't have to like every player on the team and agree with every decision everyone on the team has ever made. Why Republicans can't take pride in their beliefs but honestly admit that Trump doesn't represent them - he never has - and was simply "the better of two terrible choices" I will never understand. I don't get personality cults, especially when formed around such dishonorable people like Trump - a person not worthy of respect, much less worship.
Yes, there are no shortage of people reporting that this meeting with Downer, and Papadopoulos was a set up, similar to the meeting Fusion GPS set up with the Russian lawyer, and the Trump campaign.
Also, don't forget that this Australian donation that Downer set up with the Clinton Foundations was referred to the FBI for a criminal investigation.
Many Australians describe Downer is a very corrupt politician, so it's not uprising that he is connected to the Clintons.
There is no part of the Russian investigation that isn't highly suspect.
Last night's story (link in the OP) came from The Hill - hardly a "fake news" or "right wing" publication.
Those who were paying attention already knew this - the Devin Nunes Memo cited the Australian former Foreign Minister as an FBI source and the New York Times also wrote a story on it. It certainly seemed odd that this (now) Ambassador from Australia to the UK spent time in a Wine Bar with a no name 20 something year old and decided to go to the US FBI and report it. Of course none of the "news" report say WHY he reported it or what PapaDope supposedly said during their bar talk.
The Hill article talks of $25 MILLION dollars that Australia funneled to the Clinton Foundation through the efforts of Foreign Minister Julie Bishop -- BUT the Australia Press puts the figure at $88 Million plus.
All those multi Million dollar "donations" ceased as soon as Hillary Clinton lost the Presidential Election in 2016.
One reason for the drop-off could be increased scrutiny on international donors. The International Business Times reported in 2015 on curious links between donors and State Department approval.
IBT wrote that the State Department approved massive commercial arms sales for countries which had donated to the Clinton charity.
More than $165 billion worth of arms sales were approved by the State Department to 20 nations whose governments gave money to the Clinton Foundation, data shows.
The counties buying weapons from the US were the same countries previously condemned for human rights abuses. They included Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
But what does Australia gain from topping up the Clinton coffers? The Australian reported in February that Australia was “the single biggest foreign government source of funds for the Clinton Foundation” but questions remain unanswered about the agreement between the two parties.
“It’s not clear why Canberra had to go through an American foundation to deliver aid to Asian countries (including Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Vietnam). There is now every chance the payments will become embroiled in presidential politics.”
The Daily Telegraph wrote in October that “Lo and behold, (Julia Gillard) became chairman (of the Clinton-affiliated Global Partnership for Education) in 2014”, one year after being defeated in a leadership ballot by Kevin Rudd.
The DOJ and FBI have opened an Investigation on the Clinton Foundation and "Pay to Play" (not that I think we will ever see any Justice here) -- BUT, this is now the 3rd Source that the FBI used to get their FISA Warrants to surveil the Trump Campaign ...... AND all 3 have close ties to the Clinton Campaign.
I find it incredible that Leftists somehow think this is OK -- Do any of them ever think that this sort of corruption could some day be used on them?? It's beyond scary to see the Justice Department, FBI and CIA all colluding against a Political Party and a Presidential Candidate and sitting President.
That is Banana Republican stuff and we need to get to the bottom of it and punish severely all those involved.

We have to be gentle with Trumpees right now, they are having bad days with all that is going on. Therefore, we tend to overlook some of their attempts to deflect attention away from the REAL story going on in the investigation. So, every so often, we throw them a bone.
Whenever they come up with one of these theories, we just go "Uh huh", and move on.
'Another' Clinton tie.
