It is these very simple, general questions that seem to go unanswered by the Trump White House.

I have heard others say this: Why should an innocent man get an attorney?
Well, there have been plenty of 'innocent' men (and, of course, women) wrongly convicted of crimes. Sometimes they have an attorney, sometimes not. Those without, usually fare worse in court.
Mr. Trump is being rational here, if he is indeed interviewing attorneys that have experience in these matters. It is being prudent.
Of course, the problem is, Mr. Trump has had other counsel since, and even before, becoming President. I have said before and again, Mr. Trump needs to quit tweeting and otherwise shooting his mouth off. I imagine all of his lawyers have given him this simple advice; if not, they should be disbarred.
No one knows what the future will bring. Bill Clinton was initially investigated for White Water, but ended up on trial in the Senate for lying under oath about his relationship with Ms. Lewinsky. He escaped removal from office, due to the two-thirds vote requirement.
Likewise, we do not know what the future portends for Mr. Trump and associates. What if the Democrats win control of both the House and Senate? I imagine Mr. Trump would be fine in the Senate trial (again, two-thirds needed to convict), but better to try and avoid that possibility or, if worse came to worse, be prepared.
